Hi,
I'm not sure leaving booking a safari until you are in Kenya will be a good idea, there is such a high demand you may be left out and there is no guarantee that the prices will be different.
I went on a Safari to Tanzania in August 2008. We booked through Trailfinders (http://www.trailfinders.com/) and they saved us heaps of money, they were also very flexible with what we wanted. They also do safaris to Kenya as well. It was still not a cheap holiday, but going on safari is worth every penny and it stays with you for life! Ah, I wish I was back there.
Hope this answers your question,
Regards
Amy
