The mountain of Monchique is located to northwest of Algarve, with his higher point Fóia, having 902 meters of altitude and with a suave (Subtropical Marine) climate, given his proximity of the sea and locating to south of Portugal.

The geology is composed by schist formations and a solid sienitico rising to the 902 meters characterized by fóiaite.

The mountain of Monchique still possesses several sources of water that it is from the time of the Romans quite appreciated, given their therapeutic qualities. The mountain of Monchique possesses a great diversity of its flora containing more than 1000 species of plants, prevailing however monocultures of eucalyptuses and brave pine trees, also meeting significant cork tree forests, chestnut trees and arbutus tree. In smaller amount it is the tame pine tree and holly among other species.
