| Hi all,
noticed quite a few apartments mentioning mozzie nets on all windows and doors. Is there much of a problem with them in altinkum?

i have always get bit in turkey,
i have found the best thing to evade these nasty blitters, is to shower in tea tree shower gel and use tea tree body lotion. i know people are always giving advice. however i have found this the best treatment yet. happy holiday carol.

| Hi Carol.
usually go to Icmeler & never have any problems, they have wagons spraying the gutters etc to keep them down. Wondered if Altinkum was the same.

| Hi
We are just weeks back from Icelmer, great really enjoyed it,the second week off our holiday i got mozzie bite
I think the first few were from the quad bike trip and a few from the horse riding trip and prob a few at the bars
in the evening thank god it was the second week because they were sore, i sprayed a lot of the lemon spray as people
were saying that helps yea right i think it attracted them.
Its strange because they usually love my husband but they left him alone may because he did not use the lemon spray.
My son is going to iclemer in a few weeks and he will be taking mozzie spray, spray those legs lol.
They do go around at night spraying but i still got bit, a couple off other people i could see had bites on there legs.
don't let this put you off because its a great place to go really it is,just take stuff to spray on. We had know nets in our room but we did not need them.

| Hi there,
i have been to many resorts in turkey and have been bit in all of them.
mozzies appear to like certain people i.e. ME.
my husband never uses anything sleeps in the nuddie and has never been bit.
i work in a hospital and asked the dermatologist if there is anything you can do to avoid them and was told no.
however as i said on a previous post tea tree appears to work for me.
anything is worth a try. carol.

| You can buy a good insect repellent in the supermarkets called Off and also if you spray yourself with lemon cologne that keeps them away too.
I think I might try the tea tree oil too, I don't get bitten much but anything to avoid it must be good!

| Yes mozzies are a problem in Greece, just take a spray with you and buy a plug-in for your room. keep re-applying the spray as we got bitten at the water park when we kept washing it off!

| Here are some tips from the Egyptian forums:
MOSQUITOES:- Take Vit B1 pills just before going & during - you won't taste nice to the mozzies then. Thiamine, found in B1 is an irritant to them. Be aware that prolonged use may upset your mineral balance. Vit B1’s effectiveness is lessened thru alcohol.
Holland & Barrett sell timed-release ones; our body doesn’t store if for long so you can begin them the day before the hols.
Some people say take yeast pills instead, or marmite!!! (Eeewww!). I acknowledge Vit B1 doesn’t work for everyone, but maybe it’s worth a try?
Take Avon Skin so Soft / Woodland Fresh as it's a great repellent. (Some specifically recommend the Avon skin so soft dry oil spray "soft & fresh"; you want the blue/green bottle as this variety has the citronella in it, it is not in the pink one "soft & sensual" I use the pink one tho. It’s available online.
Some say get DEET from Boots, Jungle Formula. Please note that whilst DEET is effective, it can be harmful & should be used with caution. DEET is known to cause neurological damage, & once it enters the bloodstream, (after being absorbed through the skin) it makes its way to the nervous system, where it is known to cause seizures & even deaths. It can be especially harmful to children, which is why its use should be strictly limited with children.
Take a room plug in. If a real mozzie problem occurs in your room, ask reception to spray it when cleaning.
You can also get wristbands from Mothercare against mozzies (approx £4 each).
Aspivenin gadget from Boots (about £20) or online- pocket sized mini pump that will suck out the poison from mozzie bites etc.
There's also something called a ''clickit' ; it gives small electric shocks to the bitten area, which is supposed to stop the itching.
