Hi,
Just wondering what peoples' opinions are on the best way to get from Brisbane to Cairns over land. There's going to be 2 of us travelling, both of us under 25. Car hire is therefore fairly pricey, so the other options are the greyhound, tilt-train or equivalent. But with those latter options, I'm worried that we'll not have the freedom to stop when and where we want, plus the added inconvenience of having to carry our luggage everywhere we go. Decisions decisions!
Can anyone help? Cheers!

hi greenbeak , its a bloody long way and the roads go on and on and on..... we traveled by car but only as far up as kepel island this is where the reef begins and its breath taking my husband and our friend (an oz) shared the driving but it was enough for us, i think you would be better goin by train or take an internal flight these are easy to book once you get to australia, how long are you going for because you will lose time driving. or you could hire a car and drive part of the way and then pick up the train or a flight im sure the train takes 24 hrs we found car hire cheaper when booked from the uk make sure you get air con if you go in the summer months we went for 8 weeks and it wasnt long enough there is so much to do in the brisbane area alone i think you have picked a great starting point.
