| Could anyone tell me if credit cards are as widely accepted in Australian shops and restaurants as they are here.Also are there plenty of ATM's.We are gong to Melbourne on 12th March for the Commonwealth Games.

I would take note about the bit that says "contact your card provider"......i went for a weekend to France and forgot to get my card activated....not alot of shopping that day!!!::roll:

| We were in Perth in November and had no problem using Mastercard and Visa (although I agree with the prevous comment about informing your card issuer that you are going abroad, just so there are no problems when you get there - had an issue at a camp site in France a few years ago)

| Do make sure you contact your card provider.I was in the middle of Brisbane and the bank put a stop on the card.It took 2 days to sort out because of the time difference.I did get an apology but was also told i should have informed them to put a travel tag on the cards. I dont forget anymore!!!!
