Bulgaria Ski Resorts

It is "crazily, undeniably, ridiculously" cheap in Bulgaria's winter resorts, The Gurdian wrote in an article about the best ski resorts in Eastern Europe.

"In Bulgaria, it's hard to spot the locals for all the English descending here every season. Their increasing numbers have made this the flavour of the month for one reason only. It's cheap. Crazily, undeniably, ridiculously cheap. A three-star hotel for seven nights with breakfast and dinner is from 165 pounds."

The Pirin resort of Bansko

can compete for one of the shiniest ski resorts in "new" Europe, with a gleaming blue gondola for skiers and snowboarders, ski centers and schools, two chair-lifts and 17 pistes, including a 16km run from beneath the summit down to the outskirts of the charming town.

This is rubbish. I'm in Bulgaria now. It's EXPENSIVE, becuase everyone is out to sqeeze you of the last penny. Lunch is typically 10 to 15 POUNDS!!!

Everyone just hassles you all the time, it's like Africa. And it's scruffy, dirty and they have NO IDEA about safety.

Forget Bulgaria, it's a con.

Went to borovetts in feb 2008 stayed in the hotel rila.which was ok

yes the place is a dump and now very expensive,ok not as much as say france, but at least you get a good resort to the £ or euro.

These bulgarian resorts all seem to suffer the same problems eg being charged for drinks/food that you did not have. These are not mistakes they are just trying to steal your money off you. They do not give you the correct change allot of the time.

This is by far the worst resort i have ever been to and would advise to stay away.

There seems to be more than a little negative sentiment around regarding Brovets specifically and Bulgaria generally - Beyond the original post quoting the Guardian, I didn't see much regarding Bansko.

I'm obviously biassed but have nothing but good things to say about it - interested to hear other views...
