| Ok peeps, we are of to Goa in India for the first two weeks in December, we are gonna be stayin at Calangute and at the Hotel Ticlo. We are going with a couple who regularly go to Goa as they seem to be bitten by the bug. if anyone has got any info on the resort or Hotel it would be gratefully received. :occasion1

| went there 5 yrs ago it was busy with lots of brits dutch and germans, very friendly people and was so cheap. You must try there local drinks Honey bee brandy and fennel i think thats how you spell it, both are local brews and they are good. the resort is ok not heard of the hotel it must be new. You should go to Anguna market its was well sorted lot of old hippies so i fitted in well. have a great time
PS do not hire a scooter a motor bike it lethal i took mine back after a day i like living to much :cheers:

| hi ticlo's is a pretty good place central but it gets really gets crowded during december if u need more Holiday Information let me know

| Hi there,
I've been to Calengute a couple of times - although it was last week in season rather than in December. its a great place - evidently a lot busier than other areas in Goa but nothing like busy in europe type thing. There are loads of great restaurants and shops on the main street and down the side streets which lead to the beach. Everything is very cheap (although some would say its cheaper outside Calengute - it depends what you class as cheaper - personally I don't think 50p - £1 is expensive for a curry - it was 20p for a local brand vodka last time I went too - but don't quote me)
The beach shacks are great to get drinks and eat - not sure if they will charge for sun beds in December, but usually if you drink from a particular shack they will let you have the sunbeds and brolleys for free. If you are confused who's beds belong to who - just put your bags down on one, and you'll soon find out :o)
You will be bothered slightly (lol) from beach sellers but they are lovely people, and will happily sit down for a chat on their journey even if you arn't interested in buying anything from them.
There are a lot of catholic churches there too as well as temples - so you get quite a range of religions in that part.
Cattle roam freely on the beach, but seem to be quite clean and docile (as clean and docile as cattle can be I suppose) and there are a lot of dogs but again these are quite sweet (stroke one at your peril - for the obvious reason, and also because they will be your friend for life).
Anjuna market - a definate - good fun, cheap but hot if you go during the day. I've heard that there is an evening market too which is a lot more laid back.
Taxis - make a friend of a taxi driver and he will take you anywhere, wait for you and bring you back - for hardly anything (Im nervous of quoting here because its about five years since I last went).
My last tip - fill your suit case with a smaller one - you will have lots to bring home :o) Perhaps bring things to give to the children - pens/blow up footballs etc.,
What can I say - lovely people, great place, very cheap - not much going wrong there at all.
I hope you have a wonderful time. We have moved on to Kerela now, and love that too.

| Went to Calangute last March for the 1st time and loved it. Going back at the end of November. Its a bit of a culture shock at 1st but once you get settled in and start to explore its great.
We met ex-pats who showed us round so if you are going with some people that already know the area you will have a head start. We went on tours to the Waterfalls where you can feed the monkeys and down the river looking for crocodiles, the scenery on both trips is amazing. We booked with a local taxi driver rather than with the tour operator, found it to be much cheaper and a lot more informative.
The beaches are clean and the sea is lovely and warm, the food is great and theres lots of bars and restaraunts to choose from..

| Just back from calangute.best holiday we ever had, cant wait to go back.Recomended restaurants would be After Seven, East Meets West, Tibetan Garden,Fiesta,and FLoyds all located in villages around calangute just jump in a taxi as they a very cheap. We booked a couple of trips through Day Tripper . We went to Anjuna market by boat which is on Wednesdays, sea fishing, which was a good laugh, and we also went to South Goa to stay on an eco friendly camp in grass huts that was set in paradise itself. It was the best trip we have ever been on we would highley recommend it.If you want to take a look at it go to www.dwaskagoa.com. you wont be disapointed.
If you fancy having any jewellery made while there Guru,s in Candolim is very good , I had a 18ct white gold and amythist ring made for £120 valued back home for £300.
We jumped in a taxi one day and went to Manderim beach, about an hour from Calangute , again stunning and not nearly as busy as some beaches . Our taxi drver took us there waited all day for us brought us back and it cost a tenner ! Any way as you can probably tell we have fallen in love with Goa and cant wait to go back. Hope this has been a help, and you have a good time

Sounds like you had a brilliant time. Makes me want the next 14 weeks to go by really really quickly! I'm staying at the Marinha Dourada which is about 1 mile inland from Baga Beach I think???
Thanks for the tip about Southern Goa.... I want to give that ago.

| I agree on the all you said oxen we also travelled evreywhere by taxi and the driver would wait for us also after going for a meal, beach or shopping. We set off for our meal one day to a portugese restaurant around 7pm as it was our wedding anaversary, the restaurant had organised a wedding cake, fireworks, and a mandolin player all unknown to us which ended up us stay until early morning, we had to go outside and wake our taxi driver up to pay him and asked him not to wait any longer as there was a party going on. It cost us about £5 that was including a tip he was well chuffed, that was in the 90s then but it is still cheap today. AS for jewelre my hubby bought me an 18k gold aquaramine ring for £80 I had valued on return home and was told the gold itself was £200 and would have to send it away to get the stone valued as it was a large aquamarine, so yes I got a good deal. So Iain when you go treat mrs Iain to some jewelrey she will be over the moon.

| well peeps we're back from our first trip to goa(calangute),we stayed at Resorte De Tio Carmino and i have to say it was perectly situated on the border of calangute and candolim so it wasnt too hectic.the shock of no pavements was quickly gotton over as was the roads lol.it was the most amazing holiday i have ever had in my ife and we experienced thing we never thought we would especialy the jungle book trip to stay with the elephants for 2 days and one night in a mud hut.we only went for 2 weeks and i was seriously considering nevr coming home so we've booked for 3 weeks nwxt year as there was so much we didnt do this time round.we went to several different beaches and couldnt belive the taxi driver just sat there and waited for us all day wherever we went and it was soo cheap.we had new suits made,prescription glasses and next year we're going to visit a dentist there as they too are realy cheap compared to england(and better ive heard too).wow we did so many things and had so many experiences that i cant list them all.one of my favourite things about goa were the people who live there,the hagling,the huge smiles,the sincere politeness of everyone.we were on calangute beach(joystons shack)when this seller came up to us,we just said no thankyou,then he asked us our names and where we were from and we thought he was gonna still try to sell us stuff but he didnt he sat on the beach and just chatted to us for about 10 minutes then he stood up and said"i hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday take care"everyone we came across was so nice i cant wait to get back out there next year and probly retire out there in the years to come.

| i have a feeling they wont spoil it(i hope) while we were there they were building a couple of new hotels and we noticed they can only build them 2 or 3 stories high which is great coz they dont spoil the scenery i only hope they continue with the building of the beach shacks and keep anything concrete or steel well away from the coastline,also while we were there many of the beach shacks especialy those on ashim and vagator beach were complaing about the realy slow start to the season which has been blame on this blody silly visa fiasco so at least i am glad its all sorted now and the indian high comission is resortung back to postal visas which is a great relief me and other travellers but also for the tourism trade which goa appears to rely on after iron ore exports.

| hi everyone,
just joined this forum and I'm very happy with what you have all written. I'm staying in Calangute in February for 18 days and can't wait. i went to Goa and stayed in Veronica guesthouse - near St Anthony's church in 2001 and absolutely loved it, however, since looking on the internet this year people write so much awful stuff about Calangute and i was beginning to worry that it had changed so much over the last 5 years. i really hope it hasnt as i loved it so much last time. the people are fantastic, the family in the guesthouse made me feel so welcome (at the time i was 18 years old and travelling alone) and the guys in the beach shacks were all so lovely! i was beginning to worry that i was taking my boyfriend to the wrong destination. thank you all so much for putting my mind at rest about Calangute - i will report all when i get back

| Just back from Goa. Stayed in a private residence loaned to us by a friend. And enjoyed Calangute. Its kind of lost it's villagey feel, but has some nice shops. I picked up a fake Jimmy Choo bag - very well made, possible, a real Jimmy Choo reject. Its got all my friends here positively green with envy.
Loved the beach, our fave shack to hang out was the Pine Tree shack. And Calangute has a number of restaurants that i liked. Top of the list was After Seven, Chapel Lane, 1/274 B, Gauravaddo, Calangute. My family and i ate there for only about Rs. 800 per person. Lovely food and ambience. Another place i liked was Over the flames, next to the Tibetan market. And East meets West.
I found a nice restaurant in Panjim, which is worth a look - its called Venite's. Very quaint!
