I would only avoid Jamaica and Barbados on grounds that it is too touristy and not exclusive enough for it to be special.

I would go for Bequia or St Lucia, but it is personal preference of course.

My t'other half propsed to me two weeks ago and the Caribbean will be the venue, not for tw years mind. But we want to starting pricing up and there are so many questions! when is the windy season? any good websites? caribbean vs st lucia! how much? and do you get wed and moved along a conveyor belt for the next wedding to take place behind you?

Any advice/tales appreciated.

With thanks. :)

My Profile
When we first decided to visit the Carribean for our annual family holiday , I was slightly dubious with the mixture of my boys and honeymoon couples on palm swept beaches. I need not have worried. We booked two weeks at Club St.Lucia by Splash a safe bet i hoped,as it was described as a family resort. On arrival at the complex after a nightmare of a road journey,( now i know why people use the helicopter services, we did on the way home!)we were shown to our rooms in our own 'village'.
The rooms were excellent, very large and plenty of room for a family of four. The complex offered four swimming pools and a jucuzzi just for the adults. The beach met the swimming pool, and with an array of restaurants we knew we had made the right choice. The boys were off most days taking part in sporting activities which gave us the time to chill out.If you are travelling as a family i would recommend this complex but not if you are getting married. It is quite a sight to see a bride on the beach amongst the volley ball nets and paddle boats! Let alone having to wade through lots of wet noisy children around the pool to get to your reception.I did read the write ups on this complex before i left the UK and some were not too good, but for a good family holiday with plenty of things to do this was excellent. We certainly enjoyed it and have returned twice, which is something we dont do very often.
One word of warning- If you do visit here always try and do your transfers by helicopter. The road journey is in a small mini bus, about an hour long and you dont travel in a straight line the whole journey!

Hi,

I got married at Marlin Quay in St. Lucia in 2002 and we had the most fantastic time. It really was the perfect dream wedding and the staff at Marlin Quay really couldn't have been more helpful. They really put themsleves out. We got married on 20th April and in the whole 2 weeks we stayed there was only 1 other wedding. On arrival we had a wedding co-ordinator assigned to us - Kitty who arranged every last detail. We chose to have our ceremony in the open air restaurant. On the day of the wedding the hotel staff closed the restaurant immediately after breakfast and transformed it - a team of gardeners came in a decorated the whole place with fresh flowers from the hotel grounds. Even down to flower decorations on the backs of each chair! After the ceremony we were taken by boat to Reduit Beach to have photographs and then returned for a private evening reception under the gazebo in the grounds with music and a special buffet meal for all our guests. We travelled with 21 family and friends and the resort was perfect for all budgets as they have a mixture of many different room types including standard rooms for 2 people, 1 & 2 bed apartments some with plunge pools and private villas for up to 6 people. All the staff were extremely friendly - Ali and Titus who ran the bar are fantastic people! The resort is located in Rodney Bay and within walking distance to a huge selection of restaurants and they offer a free shuttle boat to the beach daily. I really can highly recommend Marlin Quay and St. Lucia. We are hoping to return very soon.

I was married at the hotel Iberostar Costa Dorada June 2005
before you make your choice of country / island there are a lot of legal bits you will need to sort out your self
most of the tour operators will give you advise on what and when to do these things and in what order the cost of this is not included in the holiday wedding packages you will need solicitors translators and documents legalised by the foreign office and the dominican embassy if you plan to go there if you want to contact me i should be able to give you some points in the right direction the cost for all the legalisation are not cheap but when you compare with a wedding at home the savings are vast so first things first
plan and book wedding package/holiday with your tour operator then work through the process of legalisation most tour operators will include in the package a few photos flowers decorated location wedding co ordinator minister cake etc check whats best for your needs costs about £500 + depending on your tour operator and package on top of the holiday not forgetting the legalisation fees
so my wedding
all preperations made and off we flew to Puerto Plata from Manchester airport flight about 9 hours transfer 20 mins or so and a time diff of -5 hours so first day is a long day we are all tired so its an early night in our hotel day 2 up bright and early get a good look around our hotel the 5 * Iberostar costa dorada what a fantastic place its paradise and its hot o m g i have got a full wedding out fit and a few nerves building not to worry were all inclusive swim shorts on lots to drink and relax mmm nice chilled now we go to the welcome meeting to get all the important info and to ask who we need to see about our wedding we were told to see santos so we book a meeting with him to finalise the big day you have to be resident in the dom rep for 7 days befor you get married so the meeting takes place on day 2 you choose flowers cake flavourings and speciality restrant the photorrapher will be there but we did not pre book a video of the big day at home no problem santos recomends the production company and we book that too you pay for the video later you can book as an extra a horse and carrage ride too but we did not book that after a few glasses of champagne we visit the location and are do a mini rehearsal of the big day you can get married to the traditional wedding march or your choice of song /tune if they have it we had the traditional it might be worth while taking a cd of you fave tune if you want something different you also get as part of the deal a musical trio to provide additional music so now were all set for the day every thing booked from hairdresser to champagne we will be married at sunset pictures and videos in the tropical gardens and on the beach as we were there with just our 2 children the hotel provide the 2 whitness for the big day small weddings no problem now its time to have some fun in the pool or on the beach loads to do day by day time goes by the to our suprise relatives arrive we did not know they were coming to the wedding they booked a day after us flew out a few days later so we need to change the plans off we go to see santos no problem whatever you want you can have so more champane and final arangements made the big day
its hot n sunny 35 c chill in the pool a few drinks and i still have butterflies
and befor you know it its time to get ready i go off to get ready wife to be off to hairdresses i set of to the wedding location full out fit feeling hot and have to wait the wedding team are with me champage ect and i have to check that every thing is to my satisfaction before they collect my bride and our childern whom are bridesmade and page boy with the father of the bride too
i am waiting about half an hour later the weddin march belts out my eyes are forward i cant see my bride untill the last moment that was my choice and when i turn around my eyes fill up every one is looking at the wedding my wife to be is unbeliveable the wedding takes its course were married every on looker clapping confetti and rice all over champagne what a fantastic day photos dancing and a stroll on the beach camera cliking video rolling but we were not concerned with that just each other after a long day a fantastic meal and a show our family take our children away for the night so we get to have our wedding night alone we went back to the room and the bed covers urned back choclates on the pillow petals and special married t shirts left by the hotel we were not expecting this wow 2 mins later a waiter arrived to our room with an iced bucket of campagne 2 glasses and some prepared tropical fruits cant put in to words how we felt you would not get this at home
so were married now mr and mrs a few days later we get the wedding certificate the photos and you get the option to purchase form lots of extras taken at the wedding service and afterwards these were quite costly but well worth it then next dayu the video you are shown the event the editing is fantastic the music added brilliant and for the fee we get a 2 dvd copys and a video copy well worth the cost and it was a bit cheaper than the tour operator cost
so thats my wedding experience
was it worth it
yes
the paper work at home can be stressfull
the hotel wedding planner santos worth his weight in gold he planned with presision
the hotel location
perfect
my wife
fantastic
overall
5 * wedding
would i recommend
yes yes yes stop thinking about it do it
the cost was more than worth it at home it would have cost thousands more to get something probably not as good and i have pictures of us on the beach in the dominican in our wedding outfits fantastic
If I was not married i would get married at the hotel Iberostar Costa Dorada Puerto Plata Dominican Republic with not a second thought hope you have a fantastic wedding in the caribbean where ever you chose good luck Stephen
