Help! Dominican Republic or Cuba

Caribbean

Postby angeNZRN on Wed Jul 16, 2008 13:53 pm

Hi we are thinking of holidaying next year in either Dom Republic or Cuba. We have noticed that Dom Republic is cheaper, but have been told that Cuba is friendlier. We would want all inclusive as are going for 2 weeks. Any recommendations would be welcome as we have had friends go to both!

Hi Angel NZRN It seems at the moment that neither place would be a good choice. Try Western Australia. Regards Perthboy Western Australia

I cannot vouch for Cuba, however have been 12 times to DR covering the North, East and South.I would certainly reccommend the Iberostar Costa Dorada.it's brilliant.

As Perthboy says, you should wait and see what hurricane damage has been done first. Never had any problems with the Dominicans.lovely people.

Hi Angel I will advise our immigration department that more Kiwis are going to attempt to enter Australia. I know you have cuzzies here. We see them on Thursday nights and Saturday mornings doing the war dance in shopping centres. Only joking you are more than welcome and I am pleased that you have chosen the finest State to visit. We are gojng to NZ in October and cruising from Auckland back to Sydney. Where do you come from? I will give you a hotmail adress if you want to write and our real one after. We dont get nutters that way. Believe you have had a beautiful summer, plenty of rain. The last day of winter was yesterday and it was 23, a nice winters day. Gotta go Go for your life Perthboy

Hi, I've been to DR three times, the 1st time being almost 20 years ago and then twice in the last 2 years and it has definetely improved so much in regards to food quality and cleanliness. I found the people very friendly there and there is plenty to do eg quad bikes, white water rafting, horse riding through the sugar cane fields, boat trips and loads of watersports. I really enjoyed the Victoria Golf and Beach Resort in Playa Dorada. I have only been to Cuba once and stayed in Santa Maria for only 1 night as the mosquitoes and the food were so bad! I then stayed in the Melia Las Americas in Varadero which was a lovely hotel but again the food not as good as Dominican and I can't say that I found the people friendly at all! They were all constantly after money and I felt that they would do nothing to help unless they were getting paid! The best time to go is Dec-May.

thanks for the advice carole

Perthyboy.. cheeky bugga!! well if your only going to Auckland you are missing the best! I am a south island girl and we have so much more to see.. Glaciers.. you dont get them in Aussie.. they are these huge sheets of ice.. to big for your eskies! have mountains called the southern alps and if you know the right people.. can ski all year round.. a little bit bigger than your blue mountains.. north island is ok.. but all they have are volcanoes and rotorua which always smells like sulphur! anyways.. where ever you go have a good one! but make sure you try the local beers.. much stronger than your aussie brands :)

if i have option, i select Cuba because This alligator-shaped island is all about mountain ranges and plains, stunning beaches, history, culture and frenzied nightlife that continues into the wee hours.

I strongly recommend Dominican Republic. I went there last year for two weeks and stayed at Paradisus Resort in Punta Cana. Everything was amazing! I can say this was the best vacation I have ever had. The hotel was excellent, the beach is absolutely beautiful, the weather just fine. Pay attention when you go coz they have two seasons and you wouldn't want to go during the rainy season! :)
