Locals descending on resorts at weekends.

Can anyone tell me why this happens. Do they just go to the resort for the day or do they stay there for the weekend, what if the hotel is fully booked with normal tourists. Do the hotels have to allow this. It seems to happen alot around the world so was just wondering if anyone knows why this is.

Hi i was in Dom rep this time last year and it seemed the locals did stay as they were in the night club, I didnt find them a problem really and not sure why the hotels allow this.

Many hotels in the Mediterranean areas allow non residents to use the pool and other facilities. They simply see them as an extra income stream. It's not a case of having to allow it, they actively encourage it for the reason stated. It's really no different to people in the UK all charging to the seaside if the sun comes out and then filling all the pubs and restaurants so 'normal tourists' whatever they are, can't get in.

Tsuser i think what robben was refering to was the all inclusive hotels in the carribean who allow locals to use there facilities for free (including meals and drinks). They wont be making money off them so I'm sure there is some other reason, many be someone out there will know.!!
