Hi All
We are thinking of a D-I-Y holiday to Crete in June. We have found some nice studios in Paleohora but would like to spend the second week in Kalives. Has anyone any recommendations please for studios or apartments we could book on the internet? We would like to be not too far from the village centre or beach. We are looking at Afrodite Apartments, Thamiris, Thamirakis and Villa Petros.
There seems to be a lot of accommodation available in Almyrida but I read somewhere that the food in the tavernas is mainly English. That's not what we go to Greece for.
Thanks in anticipation,
Yiamass, Jean

Accommodation help in Kalives please
Hi hope this will be of use to you - I stayed at the Thamirakis last year and will be again this year. The Thamiris are owned by the same family and are set on the beach in lovely gardens either of these apartments are in the centre of town and right on the lovely sandy beach. The Petros is further out of town and you have to walk along a busy main road to get to town - but only for about 10 minutes. The beach here is very quiet but again a very sandy beach but a quiet area. In town the beach bars are open in the evening and have a friendly and relaxing atmosphere. If you are looking for lively night life this is not the place - just very relaxing. Almyrida has a few more beach bars and the beach is equally as good. Only a few euros taxi ride is you fancy a change in the evening - think it is a bit more lively. Iannis is the owner of all of the above accomodation and is very helpful and will organise taxi's and advise you of anything you need to know about the area. Hire a jeep and explore the area - great fun! Hope this little bit of info helps you.

Hi Beach baby
Thanks for taking the time to reply. We have booked the top floor at Thamiris. It sounds very good. We like a place which is still quite Greek with nice tavernas for the evening and no Karaoke. Kalives sounds as if it fits the bill. Can't wait.
