Anyone stayed in Makriyalos
I've been there twice. Its been a while so things may have changed since I was last there (approx 6 yrs) but was a beautiful little resort. Its the only summer holiday destination I've been to more than once.
There should be a handful of tavernas selling fresh fish and greek dishes along the beach and harbour, a few bars that sell cocktails and beers, one or two takeaway style shops that sell pizza and gyros and a few small shops. If you walk towards the outskirts of the village there are a couple of nice jewellery shops and a fantastic gallery that sells Greek pottery and art (they also have a shop in Skiathos Town).
For day trips there are buses to Ierapetra and Sitia (and possibly Myrtos) and there are boats to Koufonisi. I've always hired a car locally to see more of the island and I'd recommend that if you have a longer stay

I have a house in Makriyalos - what do you need to know? Compares to the north of Crete (Malia, Ag Nik etc) it is much quieter but still has lots of to offer. Plenty of tavernas, 4 cash points, a number of small village supermarkets and the people are fab. The beaches are lovely - you can choose from sand or pebble - it's a great safe place. {url removed} It's worth the drive from Heraklion. Go to the Dragon's Cave just 5 mins by car outside the village, Jack's bar at Villea Village is great (use their pool too if you go in the day for food) and Zorbas up near The Sunwing Hotel (mainly sandanavians) is great fun. So many nice places to eat.
Does the help?
