Makriyalos

Postby mollysmum on Wed Aug 22, 2007 7:27 pm

Have just booked the Villa Plori in Makriyalos for myself and 12 year old daughter in October. However, I've just realised that there's no swimming pool - does anyone know if there are pools nearby which we can use? Also, does the beach in front of the studios have sunbeds and umbrellas? Thank you.

Hi. Not many of the villas have pools, but if you have a look at www.kosmar.co.uk there are a few apartments with pools listed , but the beach has an abundance of beds and umbrellas for hire. The beach itself is fantastic, sandy, uncrowded after the summer holidays are over and shelves gently into the sea (sandy all the way in!). Lots of lovely taverns along the waterfront or by the harbour for lunch and dinner. We are due to go to Villa Plori in September so will post a report on our return.

Makriyalos

Just returned from a couple of weeks in Crete, one of which was spent in Makriyalos. This is the second time we have been and it was great. Due to sea conditions during last winter the beach is a lot wider outside Villa Plori and you can still walk out for a long way into the sea without having to swim. If you prefer a pool you can use Fisherman Jack's Pool Bar at the end of the village just before you get to the medical centre and chemist (a few minutes walk). It is free to get in but you are expected to buy drinks and/or food while you are there. I would personnally go to the beach as it is located at the rear of Villa Plori and you get a discount if you use the plori sun beds located directly outside. Who could ask for more.
