| So folks, what was the first ship you went on to take away your virginity to the ocean life?
Mine was the MS Seawing formally owned by Airtours/Mytravel in 1994 or 5 and funnily enough, I still remember the itinarary in the exact order.
Fly Manchester-Palma
Day at sea
Gibraltar
Cadiz
Lisbon
Tangier
Palma - Manchester

| Funnily enough it was the Seawing for me too... Excellent holiday, nice small informal ship. What happened to it once MyTravel stopped doing cruises?
The itinerary was:
Fly to Malta
Day at Sea
Piraeus (Athens)
Santorini
Rhodes
Crete
Day at Sea
Fly home from Malta

| My first cruise was in 1973, it was on Azna lines Monte Umbe, we sailed from Liverpool, our first port was supposed to have bee Sueta in africa but we didn`t get there as we hit the edge of cyclone going through the bay of biskey. they covered all the portholes up, everybody was seasick we didn`t come out of our cabin for 3 days. then they decided to stop at la coruna, then we went to tenerefe, las palmas and madera, and vigo.

| our first cruise was on the topaz about 7 years ago, when it was doing its last transatlantic crossing. which was for 18 days. there were loads of competitions and if you won any you got a ticket to go into the prize draw to win a top of the range car. 2nd prize was a free cruise. on the last day the bingo was a massive £2,500 the most memorable person on that cruise was a barman named Sidney once he knew what you drank as you walked through he door he was pouring your drink and he knew every bodies name. i often wonder what happened to him. can anyone else remember him?.

| My one and only cruise was some 35 years ago on the SS Bartika ( a russian ship) to Spain and North Africa. Went with the school. Can remember the Bay of Biscay was awful, nearly everyone was sea sick.

| My first cruise was also the Topaz, we went on a canary island cruise and stay. Madeira first then agadir and morocco then the islands themselves. We had a fantastic time, although the ship even then was pretty old and, dare I say it? smelly... However the people we were sailing with were a fantastic crowd, we kind of got together at the madeiran dinner night and carried on from there! We even got in with the crew, so after hours we were joining them at the disco bar sinking B52s with the best of them (and on some-one elses tab!) We were there for the Burns night, where some old guy recited the whole of a really long scottish poem in a really broad scottish accent which made it really hard to decipher. Anyway we had our first taste of haggis and neaps and all in all had a great time. However the experience has taught us that if we go on another cruise, we want to be on a really smart ship, one that isn't 50 years old when it first came to the line, one with chandeliers and loads of mirrors and shiny stuff, and one that doesn't SMELL!! | SS France doing a transatlantic from New York to Southampton in either 1971 or 1972 - can't remember which. Do remember (I was not yet in my teens) that it had glamour and style that I have never encountered since.
