Well after about 2 months of driving myself and my family demented with looking up for the best deal, finally took the plunge and booked Royal Caribbean Mariner of the Seas Eastern Caribbean cruise plus 1 week in Orlando!:D

So excited, none of us have cruised before. The ship looks amazing.

Only slight concern is that we are going mid September which I think still counts as hurricane season. However with flights, hols from work etc this worked out the best time to go.

Any hints, tips, things to look out for would be great!

You are going to have a great time!:sunny: Cruising is the best money spent on vacation ever! The service is outstanding. The Royal Cariibbean is absolutely the best choice. Tip #1 ; don't buy any tours on the ship. Once you get off the ship, taxi's are willing and able to do what any tour will do for half the money. Just be informed what each port has to offer, and tell them what you want. You stay in charge of your own time and money spent.
Tip# 2 ; nothing is for free. Even the welcome drink could be charged to your room if you don't watch out. They take your picture 'k'chinggg.." $20, cocktail "k'chinggg..", coke "k'chinggg.." and so on. At the end of the cruise I've seen people having fits when they saw their bill. If you drink coke, you can get a 'coke pass' and pay one fixed price and have as much coke as you like during the cruise. You are not allowed to take any licquor on board for your own consumption. If you do buy a bottle of something or other, they confiscate it and return it to you at the end of the cruise.

Don't forget to research each port and see what they have to offer. I have no idea which ports you will be visiting. The worst port ever is Barbados. Uninteresting and people/taxi's are rude. Best port is St. Lucia, beautiful volcano.
Have fun.

Just a word about your concern about Hurricanes.

These are now becoming more predicable and Cruise Ships will take avoiding action should one be forecast in your location, even if this means missing out a port of call entirely. You have very little to worry about during September.

Enjoy your cruise and let us know what you think about Cruising on your return.
