| I am taking my Mum on the Magic of Iceland Cruise (24 July 2008). As she is not too good on her pins I wondered how difficult the tenders are to use? If too much of a problem she is happy to stay aboard. Any comments please.

Hi Sailors,
Welcome to HW and the cruise forum.
You don't say who you are going with, but on every cruise we have been on, (and thats a lot) the use of tenders has never restricted any passengers even wheelchair users. they are used to getting everyone on & off them.
There is however a stop put on if the sea are running to high for safety.
The crew will tell you if there is any problem.
Enjoy your cruise, do pop in and let us know how you got on, on your return.

| Hello Sailors
I went on the same cruise last year. Tenders were only used at Thorshavn and Flam, (part of the time only).
At Thorshavn we moored outside the harbour but I suspect we could have got it were it not for the large ferry from Denmark and two other cruise ships. The sea was quite choppy and for a short while they reduced the tender service by 50% as it was too rough to disembark from one side. However as Tenpin says the crew are experienced in helping less than agile people onto and off tenders and will not disembark passengers if it is considered unsafe.
Flam is at the end of a fjord so is sheltered; hence choppy seas should not be a problem. There is only one cruise ship berth so if another, (usually more upmarket), cruise ship is there, it will have priority. However if that ship departs first, as happened on my last visit, the ship will move into the vacated berth to avoid the use of tenders.
