| We are trying to decide where to go next year and want the Caribbean. Thinking of Mexico, Cuba or Dom Rep. Has anyone stayed at the Iberostar Varadero and what is Varadero like?

| I stayed at Varadero a few years ago and didnt really like it much. For me, there wasnt much to do apart from the big AI hotels which Im not a fan of. That said it was in January and the weather wasnt too good. We also stayed 3 or 4 nights in Havana and that was amazing, i would definitely recommend it. I will definitely try to go back to Havana as soon as poss ivo the Castro situation but maybe twin it with another resort.

| :hotsun: Why not Curacao:sunny: . Google it, you'll find a hidden treasure. It is more beautiful than Aruba and has a lot more to offer. More Culture, many more beaches, more fun and not as expensive. Just like Aruba it is located right off the coast of Venezuela. Dutch former colony with rich with history. One of the most beautiful diving locations in the world.

"What is Varadero like" ARGHHHH I went there last year and the only good memory was leaving!!! I tell you I still wake up in a sweat about that place, I've been to many places but that was the worst of my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:thumbdow: Sorry don't mean to be a party pooper but the only thing of interest was Al Capone's house and I'm not 100% sure how genuine that was. LOL:icon_smi:

| Hi, I'm off to Varadero in mid September, so I will report back upon my return. We are staying at the Blau Varadero hotel, but half way through the holiday we will be getting on a bus to Havana and staying at the Amadores de Santander hotel in Old Havana for 3 nights.
We have booked the Havana part of our trip independently (in fact I have just got the hotel confirmation), as this will give us more flexibility and value for money than our tour operator can provide - hopefully.
We have never been to Cuba before but travelled through Mexico independently in the past without too many problems, so hopefully we shouldn't have too many problems this time. Sorry can't be of help yet, but will try to get back to you at the beginning of October. Right I'm off to brush up on my Spanish.

| I've been to all three and I think how your holiday went depends entirely on your hotel, so if you pick a lovely hotel you'll enjoy any of your choices.
If I have to decide, i would say we least enjoyed Mexico (stayed in Playa del Carmen). The place is full of loud, abnoxious Americans who can only be described as trailer trash (it's as near for them as us going to Spain). We liked Cuba but if is a very poor country out of the resorts. We stayed at the 5 star paradisus Rio de Oro which was lovely but we still didn't like it as much as we do the Dominican Republic. We've been 6 times and are going again on December 17th. The people and staff are lovely - much less assuming then the Cubans and we feel much more at home there. I would always choose at least a 4 star hotel if you can though as some of the hotels of 3 plus stars and below can be a little disappointing. I would stick to either the Iberostar chains or the Riu's - we've stayed in 5 of there hotels now and they have always been wonderful.

| August is not a good time for Cuba - hurricane season begins in June and goes through the summer until November, which increases the humidity and the mosquitos! You might be lucky- this year there were no major hurricanes in the Caribbean but you might not be! Why go on such a long flight in the summer when there are so many great resorts in the Med. with daily hot sunny weather? Save your long haul trip for the winter when the Med is not so hot and the Caribbean weather more settled.

| if you like the beach yes varadero is very nice . if you like more thing to see and do abit of more adventure i will suggest havana. the best place to visit in cuba. we stayed at hotel valencia and it is situated in the center on old havana. the staff were awesome and there is paela restuarant next to the hotel.
Cuban people are generally nice and very helpful.
hope this help you with your decision.
cheers
