We have just returned from annual hol in Limassol Cyprus having holidayed here for the last 7 years sometimes twice a year, this year has been the most EXPENSIVE yet ! i cant believe how much the prices have escalated on average 20% since our last visit in October 07 examples: taxi from airport was cypŁ 30.00(ukŁ36.00) now 50.00euro(UKŁ41.66) bus into town was cypŁ0.80(ukŁ0.96) now 1.35euro(ukŁ1.12) and then you have got the price of eating out on average two course meal for two with bottle of wine is 40.00euro(ukŁ33.00) a pint of beer is now 2.95euro(ukŁ2.45) although in some bars you can get a large beer for 2euro but it is short of a pint, large bottle Magners cider cheapest i found 7.00euro(ukŁ6.66) sun loungers on beach were cypŁ1.00(ukŁ1.20) now 2.15euro(ukŁ1.80),these are just a few essential thing i noticed so if you are of to Cyprus this year it has become expensive now they have decided to make a quick buck with the euro as our exchange rate is ukŁ1.00 =1.19 euro the cypŁ1.00=1.71euro they do show prices in euro,s and pounds but beware the pound is actually cypriot pounds not sterling so add at least 50p in the pound to reflct the true price to us Brits, this was in Limassol i hate to think how much the kids in ayia napa are being screwed for on prices.

Hi Uncle Spud, did you have a lovely holiday? wasn't it hot!! We really enjoyed ourselves. This year we hired a car for one week and travelled around a bit.

We did'nt find it too expensive. Although we had been advised in advance that the prices had gone up. We, were able to exchange Ł1.00 sterling to 1.23 Euro, which we thought was quite good.

Like you said I dread to think what the youngsters are paying in Ayia Napa.

We have booked again, flying out on the 27th August for 2 weeks.

How did you find Cyprus Airways? It was you who was flying with Cyprus Airways wasnt it? We would't fly with anyone else to Cyprus now. The service as usual was brilliant. As soon as we boarded the plane and found our seats they brought a pillow and blanket for the baby. That's what I call good service.

Glad you enjoyed your hols, we have also felt the cold since we got back.

I'm sure we could fit in a little spud or maybe two...ha ha

Actually this year we decided not to take so much stuff, so we have down sized our suitcases for August. I'm sure we were over the limit of 25kg but CA don't seem to take any notice of the weight. Did you notice the same?

Hi Mal
If i downsized id be to a carry bag i already have the smallest suitcase and it still ends up with the some of other half,s justincase clothes/SHOES cos hers has half the wardrobe in it causes friction every year few shorts/vests/t-shirts thats all us men need.Coming home we were over weight due to alcoholic beverages but as we were in cyprus it was a "Ah Well" an a shrug of the shoulders an of the cases trundled unlike the elf n safety brigade back home.
Im sure you will have a good time in August will be roasting there then

My neighybour has just returned from Cyprus, been going there every year for 20 years. This was the last time for him and his wife. The prices were ridiculous. The price of beer was double to what we pay at home. As these countries join the EEC they'll find less and less people going there.

uncle spud, thanks for that, we are also with the Nationwide. We only take about Ł100 sterling. We always find the exchange rate better over there.

Us ladies always have to take 'just in case' clothes etc. Mind you, I did cut down dramaticly this year. Now I've been out and spent a fortune on new clothes, I can't wear the same ones in August that I wore in June....well, I can't can I?? The ladies will know what I mean...

dont know where you neighbour goes for drinks but found that they are cheaper than uk
e.g. good times pub in kato paphos ( near to avanti and veronica hotels) is 1.71 euros a pint ( about 1.40odd in GBŁ) and others are around the 3 euros mark which is about 2.50gbŁ.
also beer is cheap in the supermarkets

Hi Spud

Don't know if your from the emerald or the UK, if your from the Uk then the pound is taking a hamering whether you visit Spain or anywhere else in Europe. The worst stumblong block is the price of flights over here.

If your a bucket & spader as we call it LOL you will only be in the tourist area's so your easy meat for the get rich quick guy's, venture out & you can see the bargains
