Close Encounters Of The Snake Kind
why are we not informed about snakes while were in a hot climate, last august we were going down stairs and a yellow snake was coming up,so we decided to go up as well, locking our door and puting towels under the door.standing on the balcony shouting, the farmer over the road came and took it away.driving from kardamena to sacharos i ran over a 8 foot brown snake which was poisonous.my brother went to cyprus in september and he was told about snakes and if you wonder out into the open roads carry a stick.in potugal we were told about snakes,19 years of travelling were seen 7 snakes,i wonder how many people are bitten or is it because our lodgeings have been on the outskirts of the villages. and may be because we like the peacefullness with our slippery friends.

Re: Close Encounters Of The Snake Kind
All over the world there are snakes, not only in hot countries but cooler countries also! For example in Scotland the Adder is exists along with many varieties of harmless grass snakes.
Most snakes come out in the evening but generally speaking stay in the mountains and remote areas. They can come into the outskirts of town and villages.
In Icmeler, Turkey we certainly have seen a few in our nine years here. Last year we had one on the balcony. They are usually quite docile and ready for dying.
If you are walking in the countryside or mountains best to wear hiking boots and long trousers for protection and be aware that snakes, scorpions and other creepy crawleys exist there.

To put any fears to rest, snakes in general will always try to avoid you, they dislike you even more than you dislike them, and you smell they don't. They also feel you coming long before you see them, and being very polite creatures they will move out of your way. This is self-preservation, as we humans eat snakes, whereas very few snakes eat us, I put this down to the factor 15 we pour over our skin while protecting us from the sun, it does little as a marinade.
As an intrepid explorer in a past life, I know you were more likely to be bitten by a Scorpion, Millipede or Spider resting in your shoe or sleeping bag than by any snake. I still knock my shoes out in the morning anywhere south of the Watford Gap.

I dont mind snakes its spiders I cant stand
In Rhodes last year there was a huge brown (looked like a huntsman) spider with a huge body. It was sitting on a menu board outside a restaurant we told the lady inside and she just went outside and flicked it off with a pen
we were then told that they do bite but are not dangerous yuk!!!
The lady who flicked it off tutted at us as if we were mental!

I am also terrified of snakes. The thought of them makes me freak out. My husband saw one in South africa when walking along a road. He was told it was either a molesnake or the cape cobra. Im glad i wasn't with him at the time. They :icon_grrs fascinate him.

I love snakes and I'd be more than happy to see one on holiday. Nearest I come to them are the slow worms in our garden
