Holiday Debt

Postby Dogtective on Wed Sep 13, 2006 11:32 pm

If like many holidaymakers, you'd rather enjoy the sun, sand, sea and shops than worry about money then you are not alone. A recent survey has revealed that we spent a massive nine billion pounds on joy and fun during this year's season in the sun. We have created a mountain of debt to which we just keep on adding. Christmas comes, little Joey gets the latest Sony PS, one of those huge trampolines (everyone's got one), a new PC, walkman, a mobile and we splash the cash again. So the mountain of debt gets steeper and taller and we ignore it because it's. the New Year and we can start afresh... Yeah right! Well isn't everyone in debt in January and February? Anyway can't think about money just now - we're planning our holiday!! (Being at the beach gives us the chance to really stick our heads in the sand.)

Being in debt is not a problem in itself; virtually everyone has some level of debt. However, it does become a problem when you start to live constantly outside your means or you compulsively buy things just because you like them. People in debt can be divided into two types: the needy and the greedy. A Price Waterhouse Cooper survey revealed that the debt problems of 82% of people were due to poor budgeting and not through circumstances, the most popularly perceived cause.

Easy tips to get yourself back on the straight and narrow; start valuing every pound you have in your pocket; don't let shops and holiday companies rip you off by charging extortionate prices; shop about - use sites like Holidaywatchdog to get the best deals and; NEGOTIATE.

We can help you if you are having problems with debt. You obviously don't have to give you proper name and private info just post the problem.

Also if you found any great special offers or tips for saving money whilst on holiday let us know.

Woof!
