| I have just booked a 2 week stay in Menorca for myself, my wife and my daughter and am now trying to arrange travel insurance for the trip. However my wife was diagnosed with Gallstones several weeks ago and we are not sure how this will effect any policy we take out. We have got several quotes from some of the well known insurers but when you look at the information regarding pre-existing medical conditions it basically says that you won't be covered should anything happen while we are away. Is it possible to take out extra cover for this condition or do we basically just have to keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best. Any help most appreciated.

| You could ring whoever you took it out with and tell them and see what they say , expect to pay an additional fee though. Or you could just keep that for yourself and your daughter and get another one for the missus declaring her condition with another company if its cheaper to do so.
In Europe we are supposed to have an agreement with countries to get free treatment with the EHIC card which replaced the E111 forms we used to have. However though I would still get the extra insurance as I have read many stories about folk being taken to private hospitals on purpose etc and then you are not covered, with a hefty bill to pay at the end.

| Both M&S and Boots will do extra cover for the condition and don't charge that much extra. Unfortunately because my wife is still awaiting tests to rule out ant other possible cause of her symptoms, this pretty much cancels out any cover we might arrange. Our only hope is that the tests are done and come back negative in time for us to take the insurance out before the holiday, but it will be cutting it a bit fine. Many thanks for your help.
