Traveler Cheques

I have just read that lots of banks on the Costa Blanca have stopped accepting Thomas Cook traveler cheques, which defeats the object of buying them in the first place. Unfortunetly I did not know this until I bought them. What is the position if I am unable to get them cashed in Benidorm?

I have searched for more information on this and not having much luck, Can you Please tell me where you read this information?.and have you tried contacting Thomas Cook directly about this problem?.
