| Hi,
Thinking of taking a winter break in Dom Rep next Christmas period.
Would really appreciate any help and advice.
We have never been to the Caribbean!
Whats the weather like in December & January?
Where is the best place for Kids (8yrs & 6yrs)
Is it better to go all inclusive?

| I stayed at the sirens cocotal beach resort in punta cana at christmas and new year 2 years ago. The weather was fantastic we had 1 afternoon where it rained for about 20 minites but that was it. I couldn't fault the hotel at all. The daytime entertainment was full on, we done excercises in th pool in the morning, joined in the beach and hotel activities during the day, dined in the various restaurants in the evening and sampled many a cocktail.(Brandy Alexandra and Pink Lady)
My only faults would be that you cannot go out of the hotel grounds unless on an excursion. Don't get me wrong there was plenty to do day and night, but the choice would have been good. My other fault is that Punta Cana is not on the Carribbean sea, which i was looking forward to, as we enjoy snorkling.
If you do end up there ,do go quad biking. It was one of the best things I have ever done. We done this on New Years Eve, a great way to start the day off. and end the year.

| I personally like the north side, puerta plata area.
Punta Cana is nice with an awesome beach but there is nothing outside the resort.
there is lots of places to go on the north side, and the people are so warm and friendly.
check out Sun Village-it has 7 pools for the kids and its right next door to ocean world which the kids would love.
I also love Cabarete and Sousa that is nearby, lots of tours to do with the kids-we loved the Monster trucks -they visit a school which would be great for your kids to see.
have a awesome holiday!!

| weather in winter is so good, hotel we all stayed in was the 5star iberostar coasta dorarda hotel and it was superb, unfortuanately as everyone is so different, after 1 week i would have paid anybody to just get home, its so different and so not safe to go out you feel as if you are in a form of entrapment.
our duaghter who was 14 at the time was only once in the pool and contracted a chest infection and all the rules change.
1. you go the medical centre in the hotel
2. everyone is sent by taxi to the private hospital
3. all get a full medical and sent back to the hotel
4. they charge your insurance company a very large amount of cash.
5. 5 minuites from freedom to getting on the bus to come home they approach you and demand £50 excess on the insurance policy.
6. you have to pay it.
all in all i would not go back to dom rep if you paid me.
regards
stuart, sheena and shona wardrop from dumfries.
a wee tip there is nothing wrong in going to tenerife in winter and a stay at the bouganvillle playa is fantastic.
a lot goes for what you know.
