Weather in August

Has anyone been to the DR July/August time. We are thinking of booking a holiday and have been told it is monsoon season. If anyone has had any experience of the weather at this time of year it would be great to hear from you. Thanks

Hi I was in Dom Rep in July/August 2004 The weather was fantastic, we saw a couple of thunder storms out over the sea and it rained one afternoon out of a 2 week stay. My advise would be take plenty of sun creams, use aftersun and drink plenty of water as the humidity is very high. The following year we went to Margarita (Venuezuala) at the same time and the weather was the same there too. What part are you thinking of going to? Sandra

I have been to the Don Rep a couple of times. It certainly wasn't what i would call monsoon but did have a few heavy down pours every now and then.
They tend to last for about 10 mins or so and the is back

Thank you very much for info on the weather. We have not decided on anywhere yet. It needs to have enough activities to entertain 3 teen boys, nice food, rooms etc. So any advise on a good place to stay would be great.
