medical insurance in the Domonican Republic

Hi everyone. We had a fantstic holiday in the RIU BAMBU but are a bit worried about some of the stories concerning medical insurance. 3 stories confirming local doctor and hospital not accepting valid insurance and making people pay on credit card before treating. Has anyone experienced anything like this? It is putting us off going again. Thanks
