OK...Take £ notes but try to keep to £10/£20 as I guess you might struggle to change £50.
Change a little £ notes into LE for your first day or so before you go.
Take £ coins to tip various people like room boys, pool boys and waiters.
As a previous poster said, if you spend you ££ notes in the Egyptian shops they will round down and so you will lose out.

Am going to sharm on 4th September, have read all the posts in this thread, and have decided upon taking all my money in pounds sterling with the exception of 50 egyptian pounds for the first day till i get get my sterling exchanged at a bank in sharm.
What i am wondering is if i decided to exchange all my sterling at once, to save the hassle of repeated trips to the bank, what would be the best way to exchange my money back? here in the uk, or in egypt? or would it just be best to exchange small amounts of money every couple days/

SWISSINAI said it all about your currency and as for transfers to your hotel..go on to octopus travel and book with them..they have booked a private transfer for 8 adults from cairo airport to hotel (approx 45mins away) for 22euros..and i used them the last time and they were on time and we just gave the driver a tip...how cheap is that...

vicks2109......I too have OCD. Don't worry we all have our oddnesses and perculiarities. Have a great time in Egypt, also try the Garda Lakes, spotless, no litter, clean Euros, no chewing gum and everyone smokes at the outside ashtrays so hardly any ciggarette butts on the floor. No insects that I could see, no dirt in the lake......brilliant scenery....I loved it

Things change drastically in foreign exchange, so for 2009 experience, is it best to take sterling or American dollars to change locally?

heading to egypt shortly, dont have a credit card (by choice) my bank "reliably" inform me that my maestro card will be accepted there for general/atm use, to be honest i would trust my bank as far as i could spit. does anyone know if maestro is actually usable in egypt? going for a weeks cruise and would rather not take lots of cash with me if i could avoid it.

Does anyone know if you can pay for your visa with a credit card? Or does it have to be cash?
We are heading to Egypt in October from Canada and was wondering if we should bring some euros and egyptian pounds or what some experienced people would recommend. Thanks for any help offered!
