Thanks for your help, we have decided to go to Windermere now but struggling for a hotel so will stay in Kendal and drive over as it's not far at all.
I will be taking the camera and hopefully can put some pics on here!

why dont you try Chester its not far from Manchester and is such a beautiful place to visit, I live in Manchester, and have visited Chester lots of times, although the Lake District is beautiful Chester is a lot nearer and you can visit The Trafford Centre which is 5 mins away from me but is well worth the visit.

Hi Red,
Thanks for the suggestion but we ended up going to Kendal in the end and visited Lake Windermere as well as Keswick and Bassenthwaite Water. Had a great time and on the last day we did a 6 mile walk around Ambleside. I will attach some pics later.
Regards to the Trafford Centre, we live about 15 mins away so do not really need to go there.
May take a visit to Chester though as I have not been there yet.

Lol, I didn't realize that you lived in Manchester, yes I agree you cannot beat the Lakes especially Windermere/Bowness and Ambleside so long as you get the weather, glad you enjoyed yourself.
