Can anyone advise the best way to take currency to Kualar Lumpur or Bali please?
Is it better to take travellers cheques, local currency or take English cash and change it once we're there.
I normally take local currency wherever I travel as well as a credit card incase of emergencies but I've been advised that commission on both of these currencies will be quite high if I purchase it through Bureau de Change or my local travel agent.
Currency query..help!!

Sue - we took cash with us when we went to Bali at Christmas. We had a safe in the room, so we kept everything of value in there. The Balinese are generally honest, but it is better to be safe than sorry. We had a stop-over in Singapore on the way out and got about 50 in Balinese Rupiahs to tide us over. We then changed sterling at the hotel and the local exchange in Sanur. You are warned to be careful at the local exchanges, but if you count out your money there and then you will be OK. We didn't have a problem. All hotels will have money changing facilities, but they do not give as good a rate. It is so cheap however, that a few Rupiahs here and there is not too much of a problem. We used our credit card to settle our account at the hotel on departure, but did not use it for paying for anything else.
