| An 'obnoxious' air passenger told an air hostess there was a bomb in her bag has been jailed for 12 months.
After she declared that she had a bomb, the captian ordered her bag to be searched. When her bag was searched by cabin staff, her travel companion shouted "tick tick tick - BANG"!
The passsenger later claimed it was a drunken joke - but her claim sparked an emergency response by police and firefighters when the aircraft landed at East Midlands Airport .
The plane had to be directed to a remote part of the airport while the matter was investigated.
Not really that funny to be honest! Should have been a longer sentence than 12-months in my opinion.

| People who do that shouldn't be allowed to fly again in my opinion.
Harsh i know, but possibly endangering lots of other people's lives as a 'joke' isn't funny at all, and if they're sick enough to think it, never mind joke about it, then who knows if they would actually carry it out

| hey thanks so much for posting that! i was working as crew on that flight (xl airways) last summer and ive since left the airline to work for thomas cook. the police never contacted me to let me know what the turnout was!
i remember the woman and her partner were complete idiots. they behaved strangely throughout the entire flight. they were sitting at overwing exits so my colleage asked the woman to put her bag in the overhead locker for landing and thats when she said the comment "careful its got a bomb in it". we were all new crew and a bit shaken about what happened. the captin was american and took the entire incident extremely seriously.
when we landed they took us to a remote stand at the airport and we had to wait about 40mins for the police to decide what to do. we made an annoucement telling the passengers to stay seated until further notice and the woman and her partner started getting up and getting there bags togethger, completely oblivious to the fact that they were about to be arrested!! i honestly think that the boyfriend should have been sent to prison as well because of his comment.
we were stansted based crew and had to hang around ema airport for 5 hours giving individual statements, i was so late home that night.
just out of interest how did u find out that she had been sent to prison? im really surprised because the police said theyd contact us..

| That is shocking i agree 12 months is not enough, as staff you must have been terrified and they wasted your's and police time, people like that should be banned from flying again.
So many people's lives were taken and familys effected due to the london 7/7 bombing surley these idiotd should know that.

| Welcome to HW Trolleydolly. It must have been an awful experience for you and the rest of the crew. Thank god it was just a joke.
