Ushually if your flying with the holiday companys actual airline i.e. thomsonfly, thomas cook airlines etc this makes you feel more confident that thier operating safely in line with guidelines set.

when they contact the flight out this is a different thing though, thomsonfly and thomos cook do use less regulated carriers, such as Onhur Air, Pegasus, Air Jamaica, Air Eurocipria!

current issues with the likes of onur air ive come across are:

On July 18, 2006 there was an incident where the tail of an Airbus A 321 aircraft hit the runway during landing, damaging the pressurized passenger cabin.

On August 10, 2006 there was an incident on the flight from Paris to Bodrum, reportedly a window in the ****** suffered a malfunction. As a result the plane flew at reduced altitude for over 2 hours and was re-routed to Istanbul.

On 15 September 2006, a pilot refused to fly an Onur Air flight, telling passengers that the plane was unsafe. This led to a reported 'mini-riot' on the plane.[4]

On January 1, 2007 an incident occurred whereby the cargo hold door of a McDonnell Douglas MD-88 aircraft burst open during flight. This was caused by a rapid depressurisation in the cabin. Luggage spilled onto the Runway when it touched down at Istanbul.[5]

On September 7, 2007 An Airbus A 321 aircraft lost cabin pressure on a Dalaman-Birmingham flight and the plane had to make an emergency landing to Istanbul airport. Passengers also reported smoke coming from the left engine as it landed at Istanbul. Some passengers claim that their air masks on A321 did not work and one passenger kept a piece of one that had fallen apart completely. Onur Air failed to make any explanation to passengers.[citation needed]

On May 1, 2008 An Onur Air, aircraft taking off from Antalya, had to make an emergency landing. Shortly after liftoff, passengers reported an loud noise and the aircraft proceeded to fall, instead of taking off. The pilot dumped the aircraft's fuel over water, and went back to Antalya for an emergency landing. No one was hurt in the incident, but several passengers was treated for emotional distress. The aircraft had 166 passengers, mainly Danish tourists on the way home.

Yeah mal, id give CY a shot

Its good to see Onur air are still ruining their reputation in the finest way young knowledge ;) The day that airline folds will signal a big party for me. It wont be far off when one of their planes becomes a smoking hole in the ground. Its not a matter of if ..its a matter of when. Maybe something will be done then, but then again maybe not.

Chrissy, i could have wrote more..but i had to get off to work. Ignore the media, half the time its a none event not even worthy of reporting..but the media need to sell papers. What would sell them?

1. Plane lands after a routine go around due to traffic on the runway
2. Holiday jet avoids near disaster after a near miss on the runway

The BMIBaby flight that flew from manchester to palma had to go a normal go around (going to land and going back up again before touching down) due to an idiot on the runway which is standard procedure, but the media hyped it up as normal and made it sound like death was knocking at the door. What a joke.
The second main story that day was about a chimney pot about to fall off a roof in kent.

Go to heathrow and you'll see a hell of a lot of go arounds as its such a busy airport, but they pick on the holiday flights to make people fear them.

Dont believe all you read..all we do is laugh at the idiots who write this tripe, and then write our own letter to put them straight.

John, whats your views on flyglobespan, from what is written about them they seem unreliable and disorganised in their strucute.

It seems like they started of with bold good intentions but over time theve expanded too quickly and things have got worse.

Their long haul product from manchester was a shambles, with most flights anywhere between 12-30hrs late. If it went within 5hrs of departure we classed that as on time for them. It was mainly due to the 757 having technical problems, then the 767 wasnt happy. Total operation wise, i believe they are wanting a buyer and jet2 was rumoured to have expressed an interest.

Hi Chrissy,
By time you get this you should have taken your trip. How was it? I was always a confident flyer until in may flying to canada half way across the atlantic the plane was turned round due to tech problems. To be honest it scared the hell out of me since but im due to go to ibiza with the lads in 3 weeks and feel nervous but im flying with Thomas cook and sure all will be well

webeenhad - please do not give your daughter medication prescribed for you! If she needs it ask the doc. for a prescription for herself as he/she will know what is best for her.

I wouldn't want to take medication to fly personally, surely it might affect your judgement?

Just my personal opinion really?
