Gatwick Parking

Inside information on Airlines and Airports. Had a bad flight? Tell the world!

Hi, we are flying from gatwick south soon and have a 3 year old so thought we'd pay the extra and use BAA's valet parking where you drop the car off at the terminal and they park it/deliver.

However when reading the faq's they say you will be charged around 35 if late. I couldn't find what they call late so emailed them asking

A. What do you call late?
B. What is to stop me saying I will return say 6pm when in truth it will be 3pm?

Knowing how liable airlines are to delays and we are going to majorca.

That was over a week and a half ago and I have received no response! If they are that useless at replying I am thinking twice about using them.

Anyone know the answers or recommend alternative?

Hi we used Holiday Parking approx two years ago when we drove down from Manchester for a flight. However the prices are a lot cheaper when you book at least a month in advance. May be using them again shortly.
We also overestimated the arrival and departure times by approx 2-3 hrs both ways in case we arrived earlie and came back later, however all was on time.
They had a coah which took us to the terminal in no time at all.
You can get to it via gatwick web site/baa web site or bcp web site.

Hi,

Gatwick on site long term parking is spot on and very reasonable.

You are able to park very close to where coach picks up and they run every 15 mins.

The off-site parking is also okay and far better than Heathrow, again you can drop off luggage and they park car for you, rides in range from 10 mins to 25mins.

Just one word of warning, there have been some reports of bad driving by these valet parking schemes, so if you do use them take note of your mileage and any damage/scratches on your car.

We always use Parking Express when we fly from Gatwick South. It is on airport, the buses run frequently and you do not have to hand in your keys. I think it is a lot cheaper if you book more than a month in advance. No hesitation in recommending them.

We always use APH, very good and efficient and very reasonable. Coaches take you to and from airport and run regularly. Once you have used them they frequently send you special deals. We are going to Gatwick shortly and in conjunction with a guest house, we are parking there with overnight b&b and 15 days parking for 103.

I have used this service many times, but never come across that charge. The system is that they have your return flight details and will ahve the car ready for you; you call them as soon as you're going through the border controls. The 35 is probably levied if you don't go straight to the car when your flight arrives (e.g. go walkabout after landing or spend a night at an airport hotel before picking up the car).

NEVER NEVER USE AIRPARKS, BOOKED IT IN BETWEEN 01/11/08 TO 08/11/08 THEY ARE VALET PARKING YOU LEAVE THE KEYS WITH THEM, TRUSTING THEY WOULD LOOK AFTER YOUR CAR. WHEN I ARRIVE BACK FROM MY HOLIDAY I FOUND THE DRIVER DOOR OPEN, SO THEN I CHECK THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT CIGS WAS MISSING AND THE ASS TRAY WAS EMPTY I BELIEVE OVER 12 POUNDS IN CHANGE WAS TAKEN. ALSO I FOUND THE CAR WAS DIVEN AS I NOTED THE MILLIAGE...NEVER USE THEM AGAIN !!!

GAVEN.

I recently booked valet parking through a well known internet booking agent.

They sub-contracted it to a certain company near to Gatwick. We were told the people collecting the car were only 3 miles away from Gatwick airport.

They met us on time...no problems here. However when we returned, they were 30 minutes bringing the car around to us ( in the freezing cold) after we had phoned them advising that we had our luggage......the driver skidded around the corner and was driving very quickly. The car was covered in bird **** (it had been valeted before we went on holiday) and had 31 miles on the trip meter.

The fact that our car was a Mini Cooper S leads me to believe that someone had been out joyriding for 25 miles whilst we had been away.

So moral of the story?? Make a careful note of the mileage when you hand the car over at the airport and tell the driver that you are doing this and try to take a car that is boring to the drivers!

I am happy to advise the names of the booking agent (who promised a refund, promised to get back to me after I made the complaint but did neither) and the name of the valet company near Gatwick (Their service did not shine as brightly as their name). Post up here with your email address and will advise names.
