I'm considering investing in some lightweight luggage scales (the sort you either hold or hang from a door frame and hang your suitcase underneath) as I always worry that our cases will be over the allowance on the way home.
Has anyone used these? How reliable are they? Any recommendations?

I can weigh them on the bathroom scales at home (although we try to travel as light as possible going out, leaving more room in cases to bring stuff back) but haven't found bathroom scales in any hotels or villas in order to weigh the cases for the return journey.

Yeah, it seems that the old plan of travel out light and stock up out there is long gone. You can weigh 8 stone and be 4kg overweight and they'll charge you, yet be 15 stone and dead on 20kg and that's fine!
All I say is be about 15kg going and watch yourself coming back, as it aint much of a bargain if you've gotta pay twice.

I bought a set of old spring balance type fishing scales on e-bay. (3) They fold up and go in their own little leather bag. About the size of a small didital camera and only weigh 250grams. They are accurate to within half a kilo.
