Urgent advice required.
I want to take to Majorca a check-in bag (like, 15 kg approx). I will be staying with family who have an apartment. I will stay with them for a week and then return to UK without the bag (since I will leave my clothes there) since I will be going back for a further week or so in December.
The Thomsonfly on-line booking system (flight only) allows one to book a return flight, but ASSUMES that if one checks in a bag going out, one will also be checking in a bag coming back. The system automatically charges for a bag out and a bag in, if one books a return flight. Some other carriers do the same, but some do not. EG. Monarch allow you to DECIDE how many bags you check in when you fly out and how many you check in when you fly back.
The amount involved for booking a check in bag is £6.50 - which is no big deal. BUT I hate the idea of being forced to pay for some sevice that I will not receive.
Now....
It seems that, after I have booked the flight, I can change detail by clicking "Manage booking". Manage booking allows one to change details such as errors in names etc - although there is a swinging charge for changing certain things (such as names, flight dates, etc).
"Manage Booking" would also allow me to change the number of bags I wish to carry, and I suppose there is no reason to doubt that I could change the number of bags, after I have booked the flight, if I wish. BUT, try as I might, I can find no information via FAQs or any other enquiry facility (terms and conditions etc) which tells me what I can or cannot alter, and how much it will cost for me to do it, try as I might.
QUESTION.
Has anyone any experience of "Manage Booking" in the Thomsonfly system? Especially, is there a charge (in addition to the £6.50 bag charge) for changing the number of bags one wishes to check in?
Rapid reply would be apprreciated.

Id ring ThomsonFly to be honest and explain that situation and see if you can have it removed for a peace of mind with them. It may work, it may not.
In my experience theres only been a charge if you wish to add another bag on which it then charges you extra, however i have never had to alter this to remove a bag.
There shouldnt be an alteration charge as you can take an extra bag not prebooked with most airlines and pay at the airport for this however it is a higher rate and it is not a mandatory flight detail. But i cannot be certain.

Thanks for yours so promptly.
I am afraid that I did not phrase my query very well. My own putative solution was not to check in any bags (either going out or coming back) and then, using "Manage my Booking", add the bag I intend to bring back. Nevertheless, I am sure that you are right about contacting Thomson.
Here is an interesting thing.
This morning, I had another look at the booking that I was interested in and found that Thomson had reduced the price by £20 - so I decided to book the flights with a bag out and a bag in, regardless of the fact that I would not be taking a bag out.
After I had booked the flight, as a matter of interest, I decided to go into "Manage my Booking" to see what would have happened had I done what I intended.
Guess what? When I clicked on it I received the message saying, "Manage my Booking" does not apply to your flight!
What ARE these people doing!
Cheers

HW John.
Jimbobsw again.
I am confusing myself.
When I said... 'add the bag I am bringing back' I should have said...'add the bag I am taking out'.
Silly me.

Lol, im sure you are trying to confuse me. And its working!
With most airlines you have an option of hand luggage only or to select your outbound/inbound bags.
Id definately get onto Thomsons and see whats happening and see what they recommend.
Cheers!

Most on-line systems are designed to work for most of the people, most of the time. It's not uncommon for what might be termed 'non-standard' requests not to be included in the options. A call to Thomson should be able to sort things out for you.
