| We all got bitten in Crete. None of us had reactions or itching. Once we got the first night over we bought some spray and a plug-in which did the trick. Although we got caught again at the water park at the end of the holiday.
However a week later and the little red dots have come up as big bumps. They are still not sore, but just look big and unsightly.
The question is:
Will they go away and when?
Does anybody know?
Thanks

| Yeah they will, mine usually take a few days to get over the itching and go well within a week.

| Hi Helspeth, you poor thing mossie bites are not nice. Like John said they usually take a week to go away, try not to scratch them, easy said than done I know. I take it your back in the UK, if they are still itching buy some E45 anti itch cream, works wonders....Good Luck

| Thanks guys for your replies
They are not itching but they seem to have grown bigger thats all.
We used a citronella spray while we were away and it worked. But we got attacked at the water park as it kept washing off in the water.

| Best mozzie spray is one that contains Deet.
I used it everynight when in India but the last night (ran out) and I got bitten several times. I react really bad to the bites with them coming up in huge blisters....yuk.
It took several weeks for them to heal.
Next year I will be buying more and covering myself from head to toe.

| Best thing I know to remove lumps is Anti-Histamine tablets. Any brand will do, just get the Hayfever and Allergy Tablets over the counter.

| Hi, I only know of people who have had Marmite on toast for a week or so before and they swear by it. Prevention is better than cure...if it works for you that is.

| Best one I heard of was "Eat lots of garlic, and drink plenty of Guinness." You'll definetly know who your friends are after that!

| i have tried loads of stuff for mozzy bites and the best by far is one i get in greece its Rona Ross bite therapy gel you get it in the supermarket its about 4 euro and i have recommended it to loads of people and all agree its the best you should be wary with some of the repelants as the contain harmful substances its best to go for the natural ones and they smell i get my husband to spray it on him then i just sit next to him seems to keep them at bay .im just home from kos and ive got one the size of a pound coin on my leg but its not been itchy since i got home regards mims

| The most effective way of stopping insect bite reactions is to take a course of what is known as Anti-Histamine tablets starting a few days before and also during the holiday period.
These are more commonly known as hayfever and allergy releif tablets that you can buy from any supermarket under their own branding. There are two product types, the first one being Loratadine based and the second being Cetirizine Hydrochloride based and both should not cause drowsiness but it is always good to be careful as people can be affected i.e always read the warning on the box.
I have suffered terrible reactions from bites, almost to the point of deciding never to go to a carribean resort again but these really do make a difference and a big thank you to the doctor at NHS Direct for recommending them to me!

| We were told in Mexico that the reason the locals eat chillies is to stop the mozzies from biting. Don't know whether it works as I didn't eat chillies but Mexicans swear by it.

| I suffer terrible from mozzie bites and have some really really nasty lumpy scars from them which i am waiting to have surgically removed.
I did find the Lemon Spray in Turkey to be a godsend - i also take anti-histamines a month prior to hols and also take garlic tablets.
If you look for something along the lines of Jungle Formula make sure it has at least 50% DEET.
A friend of ours who owns a lake in France was told to try BOUNCE tumble dryer sheets - rub them over you and around doors/windows and it actually worked when i tried it.
My friend also swears by Avon Dry Oil Spray but as it is an Oil, be very careful in the sun.
