| Doh!!!!!! I've tried Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury's to get petrol today. Tesco were out of unleaded, Asda petrol station was closed, Sainsbury's had a queue a mile long.
The only other garage around us had queues too, and were only allowing £10 worth, and you had to prove that you worked for an emergency service.
What on earth is going on? a few days strike and the country comes to a standstill.

| I have two petrol stations and we ran out of both Derv and Unleaded late Friday night. Customers were being really awful to the staff!!! Not their fault that people were panic buying!!!
The problem is people were not buying in the normal patterns. Both stations had tankers booked for Saturday afternoon and took delivery. But the tankers came from the picketed refinery on Tyneside and we had to split the delivery between the two stations. Now as my next tankers aren't due until Wednesday, it looks likely that we will run out again on Tuesday pm.
Oh and yes we keep a reserve for the emergency services and staff of course!!!!

| Dont know about near me , I havent even bothered . Local Morrisons said they are not affected as they have nothing to do with shell. Its the media storm in a tea cup again! They cause all the hysteria with everything, look at Northern Rock. Personally I think the drivers are being rather greedy myself considering that the Police, Fire Service and Armed forces are paid a hell of a lot less for risking their lives everyday. I bet they are disgusted with it!
Unions strike again!

| these truck drivers are'nt fighting for a decent working wage to feed there families,£30,000+,there are people up here where i live surviving on less than half of that amount and they can feed there families.
its a strike over greed and nothing else but pure greed,if they dont like the money they are getting give up your job and give it to someone who will apreciate a very good yearly income.
you's could always join the army and make men of yourself for £17,000 per anum.instead of holding the country to ransom.

| It hasn't seemed to bad around here, but I have purposely avoided going to the petrol station. I remember in the late 90s when the fuel protest stopped petrol leaving the refineries people were practically fighting on the petrol forecourts.
Now I am not ageist as getting up there myself, but remembered seeing people who were clearly retired not only filling their tanks but also petrol cans, which made me wonder what they had to do which urgently required them to have that amount of petrol. It is like a siege mentally, stock up while you can, whereas if they stopped panic buying there would be plenty to go around.
I too thought that £30,000 did not seem that bad a wage, and apparently with bonus it is up to £41,000 and I am a socialist :lol

| You know they should have signs up preventing people from filling petrol cans, that is just soooo selfish. Oh well better dig the push bike out.

| I haven't noticed any problems in my area (Gloucestershire). I pass a number of petrol stations on the way into town and haven't noticed any pumps with 'Not in use' tags on them.

| Not all petrol can fillers are taking extra for their cars. My husbands work force need to take a small amount of petrol in cans for their petrol tools. When Grangemouth went on strike a few weeks ago there was near riot then they tried to get the cans filled. Also my 75 year old father went to get petrol for his lawn mower on Friday, in a can. Again all the dirty looks and muttering. We have no diesel left, nearest with is 30 miles away. We dont have many Shell garages but no vehicles are crossing the picket lines in Inverness so none of the garages can get tankers. Should be back to normal later tomorrow, until the next time.

| If talks break down again today, they'll be out again on Friday.
I agree with Tom, their wages seem damn good to me. I worked 60 hours a week, days afternoons and nights nursing, and only got a third of what they earn.
Today, I went all around town looking(I need petrol because I have to drive to Manchester Airport on Thursday to pick my daughter up) anyway, most supermarkets had notices saying they had no petrol.
I eventually got some in Asda, I noticed they were having a delivery when I popped in there for a few things.

| There's petrol here in Birmingham and no queue. Surprise, surprise its already gone up in price!
I need to drive for my job and travel some distance to and from work and only earn half what they do. Strangely enough I can feed my family, just, with prices the way they are.
Part of my job involves dealing with people living in poverty. Maybe a look at that would give them something to be grateful for eh.
It's infuriating. At this rate poverty in the UK will be at a rediculous level. All through greed of many who have never experienced it.

| I would never use a garage again that stuck the prices up sky high to make a mint through a strike.

| I heard on the news tonight that they have offered the tanker drivers a 14% pay rise over two years, wow, they are offering us public sector workers a mere 2% not even in line with inflation. I went for diesel tonight and it has gone up another 5p in two weeks, I just waiting to be hit for surcharges for my up coming flights.

| mplowman have you thought about what you have just said,"bringing down the price of petrol",these greedy drivers have just accepted a 14 percent wage rise over 2 years,"where do you think the money will come from" yes you've got it,by higher petrol prices.;-(
a person who is in employement and earning over £30,000 per year BEFORE BONUSES is i think very greedy indeed, nurses, ambulance drivers, firemen, police and the army get a fraction of that and they manage to live and feed there families.
bus drivers who i think take much more of a responsability with the lives of 50+ peoples lives when driving are worth more than a "tanker driver" they should be ashamed of there actions ,i wish i was earning £600+ per week.
