| I was talking to some in-laws at weekend. and we were discussing
the cost of holiday's now and what they used to be. and the prices of
of pubs and clubs. abroad now. it got me thinking to when i went to bulgaria-( sunny beech) in 1989. i was telling them that when i went, it was recomended by a bloke i worked with. who told me to expect the unexpected. on arriving at varna airport, there was no carousel with the cases on. they had two blokes throwing them down a roller.
when driving to our hotel on the coach, it stopped let a bloke on. who tried to sell us lev, for pounds or dollars. on arriving at the hotel,we was informed. that the vouchers we were given for our half board holiday. and could use these in most of the hotels. which we found ok. as we were not stuck eating in the same hotel. we went into varna town center. and some of the food and clothes shops, had very little in to sell. and i mean very little. there was only one english bar that had just opened. pretty certain, it was a scottish and newcastle's brewery pub, and they only accepted english money not lev. we were informed to change our money with the life guards on the beach. we got £40 of lev. for £10 english money. and the drinks and food we paid for was really cheap. we just couldnt spend our money... there was one duty free shop. think it was called a (colocom shop- dont know if that was spelt right). we spent most of our english money there.. in ten days. we spent around £40 in english money, and we struggled spending that. we gave the cleaners. £10 in english money. when we were leaving. you thought they had won the pools... how times have changed now?

| I had similar to you Paul, we stayed at Golden Beach, Bulgaria. On the first morning we set out for the beach and there was a wooden cabin which sold cigarettes etc. I asked for 20 Benson and hedges and a bottle of water, it came to 11 pence. So every morning from then on, I bought 200 Bensons and my water which still only came to just over £1.
On the final morning of the fortnight we were told that customs were strict and we could only take 400 cigarrettes for both of us, so I went around the hotel giving all the ciggies away to bar men and maids. They hadn't cost me much anyway.

| Yeah we went to golden sands when it was still communist. The plane going out was still one they have in service today. It had no overhead lockers, just nets and sticking plasters all over the cracks it had in the ceiling and walls. To top it off the emergency door handle fell down during take off and as we went up we watched it freeze and defrost as we came down. I cant really remember a lot about it as i think i was 4-5 at the time. But my family said it was very cheap.

| I tend to do my own bookings. When I went to France I managed to get there for not a bad price. It cost about a fiver to get to Dover on the bus (explorer!), about £20 on the ferry return and about £65 or so for my hotel for 3 days. Not bad :)

| my husband and me went on a coach trip to germany for 5 days last year twice. decent hotels, transport and the ferry included. it cost £99 on a BOGOF.
we would of gone again a few times but unfortunatly after running for years the company folded within days of our last trip.
£49.50 EACH GREAT STUFF!
we paid extra £15 and got up graded to half board.

| i got back from malta 2 weeks ago 3 adults, 2weeks, and it cost £480 for all of us.
flights were from manchester which always seems to be more expensive than other airports. why is this?
going rhodes 2 adults 16th july, man flights for 2 week paid £501 for us both and that includes transfers which usually are £44 each.
this is in a 1 bed apart that sleeps up to 4.not bad for peak season.
any rhodes info would be good.

| Yes thats alright getting cheap flights as long as you are not the poor unfortunates who get bumped off for no reason, due to overbookings.
