We are thinking of going to Gibraltar for a week aroung September time, we have called in to Gibraltar on cruise ships but usually that is only for 4 hours or so.
I was wondering if there is enough to see or do for a week?

i agree with glamrock but you could be brave and do your own thing, visit the war tunnels on gib thats one day over, visit la linea just over the border its a small town but it will give you another day out.
go to algeciras and jump on a ferry and have a day in tangiers.
and a must go to algeciras rail station and take a two hour journey through some wonderful countryside to ronda, trains i think are about 1100 from algeciras to ronda and 1630 from ronda back but there is more trains than that it's just that we travelled on those trains.
there are lots of local buses from algeciras to surrounding areas if you are brave enough to try your hand at explainig to a spanish bus driver where you want to go,dont be frightened, give it a go and enjoy your holidays.

Gibraltar has plenty to do and it depends what type of holiday you are looking for. I enjoy coming here to just relax and get away from the city.
It is limited for family fun though.

Gibraltar has loads of stuff to do, people often think they can come and see Gibraltar in a day. Well, they can if Gibraltar was a simply a taxi ride up the rock, see the apes and then back to where they came from. Gibraltar is so much more. I'd suggest you email the Gibraltar tourist office to not only get a list of suggestions but also any key events taking place at the time you'll be there for. Gibraltar National day is on the 10th September and there's a range of events taking place around the Rock in the week leading up to it. Some suggestions on what you can do whilst there are:
- Cable car to the top of the rock visit the Upper Galleries, Upper St Michaels Cave, The War Tunnels and walk down until you come to the main town area.
- Visit the Moorish Castle
- Visit Lower St Michael's cave, by appointment. a wonderful internal cave with an internal lake that sits under Upper St Michael's cave. An amazing experience.
- Visit the Alameda Botanical Gardens
- Visit the Gibraltar Museum.
- Use local buses to take a trip to Europa point, to the Lighthouse, the most easterly point in Europe (I believe) next to a mosque with one of the tallest mosque towers.
- boat trip out into the bay to see the dolphins (and whales if you're lucky)
- if adventurous you could also journey up the recently opend Mediterranean Steps. A good level of fitness is needed.
- if the weather is still good you can go down to one of the many sandy beaches
- Dine out at any one of the good eateries at Casemates and down Biancas in Marina Bay.
Most importantly the locals are really friendly and keen to help. If you're not sure what to do, how to get there or a good place to eat then stop and ask a local. Gibraltarians are keen to make you feel welcome.
PS. if you want an alternative to staying at a hotel then try Herald Travel Lettings for really decent, central flat rentals.

Definately deserves a weeks stay. I think you will enjoy discovering what there is to do there...if you like history, then you've got a wealth of stuff to satisfy you. Enjoy yourselves, if you decide to go.
