Children Walking Tall Charity

Postby HW iaintwoeyes on Wed Nov 21, 2007 10:28 am

Children Walking Tall are a marvelous charity based in Goa. They have a large house called the Mango House and use it to help educate the children from the slums in Goa. They also distribute essential items to the children like fruit, toothpaste, toiletries etc.

Have a look at their website for further information.

If you are going to Goa, then the team at the Mango House will let you visit the house and the children by appointment.

They are always looking for donations and for tourists to bring various items to Goa for them.

Children Walking Tall Charity

Sounds like a very worthwhile place to visit.

While in Kenya in September we visited Kikambala Children's Home and that was an experience that I'll never forget. Take a look at http://kikambala.cfsites.org/index.php

Eveyone should spend some time with those less fortunate than ourselves and see just how rewarding the little things are in life for them. We live in a disposable society and the latest gadgets and gismos are a must for every teenager. Mine certainly thinks differently now.

It may be worth finding out if you can get extra luggage allowance if you are taking donations. Not totally sure how this is done but know people did it in Kenya.

If you are visiting Goa this season, please check the CWT website as they are always after bits and bobs from the UK.

Some airlines even allow you an extra suitcase with goods for charities, so if you really want to help out, check with your airline to see if this is the case.

We went to visit Rob and the team at the Mango House. The work they do is just brillaint. We took about 3kg worth of toothpaste, toothbrushes, plasters, lice combs, hair bands and a few other bits and pieces.

Rob kindly took some photos of the children and the children whilst we were there. He also showed us pictures of a girl that had 75% burns to her body. She was taken to a local hospital and left on a bed because they didn't have any dressings or painkillers!!! On hearing about her plight Rob rescued her and took her to the main hospital. This all happened a few months ago and she is now recovering quite well.

My daughter was so taken with the Mango House that she is thinking of going to work out there as a volunteer during her gap year.

Well done to Rob and everyone at Children Walking Tall

Anyone watching the programme Warship? If so, HMS Illustrious will be calling in at Goa. Some of her crew went to the Mango House and carried out some urgent repairs as well as making various items for the children.

Watch over the next couple of weeks to see Children Walking Tall and the Mango House

Mondays on Channel 5 at 9pm

I only recently heard about Acorns in Calangute, seems like a very worthwhile cause, will try and visit them when I return to India later in the year.
The Mango House is beautiful and the children are so sweet but I personally would rather donate to Candolim Boys Home. They have so little and the boys are all fantastic.
Some charities get lots of advertisements, money, donations, help etc so I would rather offer my services to one of the less fortunate ones.

Out of the three places mentioned, Children Walking Tall, Little Acorns and Candolim Boys home...

Children Walking Tall is the only one out of the three places mentioned who is registered under the Goa Children's Act.

As of July 2008 there were only 43 registered homes in Goa, all other homes are either working illegally or have not passed the required level of care to be a registered chidlren's home in Goa...

Hello Virago 750

I am happy to hear about El Shaddai, although their accounts department is not included in their ISO certification of 2005...

They do have homes that are registered under the Goa Children's Act, although the latest issue of Women and Child's list of registered homes (July 2008), Little Acorns is not listed, so is not registered under the act.

I did not mean to insult your chosen charity I was just stating facts, I am sorry if they caused offence. I have also supported several children from El Shaddai in the past.
