I am thinking of travelling to goa in january 2005 but really dont know anything about the place. Could anyone give me some details regarding best resort to stay and hotel recomendations etc.
I want to stay somewhere thats not too lively but also not too quite with lots of restaurants etc nearby as we would like to make our own meal arrangements rather than all inclusive.
Also is there a tour called golden triangle or something which takes in goa.
Thanks

hi
my wife and I travelled to goa in feb this year, staying at the Marinha Dourad in Baga. We really enjoyed it, the hotel whilst not being luxurious was comfortable and clean with staff that were friendly and polite. The electric supply is erratic which can be a nuisance.
the three main resorts there are Baga, Candolim and Calangute.
We are going back next feb and this time staying in Candolim at the Phoenix Park. If it is allowed to mention another site, there is a report on "holiday truths" about this resort/hotel.
The three resorts are very close together and taxis are so cheap as to not be a problem, in fact no tourist walks anywhere!
Give it a try and I am sure you will enjoy it.
If you have any further ?'s, pm me and I will try to help

Have been reading your own posts re Calis.
Almost bought a villa there ourselves a few years ago, but family reasons stopped us. Keep going back each year to look though.

Still a lovely place but we're goping to Kalkan this Sept for a change.

Baga is great for the north of Goa. I stayed at the Sun Village and although this was all inclusive, I still ate out a lot as it is soooooooo cheap. There's a great chinese restaurant not too far away and loads of other restaurants in Calangute which is only a short taxi journey.
I went out shopping alone while boyf stayed at the hotel in the bar and was completely safe - didn't even get hassled.
Don't be too shocked when you get there with the pot holes in the roads and the random cow wandering around here and there.. you get used to it after a couple of days. And be careful of the mopeds. If you want to hire one from the locals then do - but be warned - you will not be covered on your travel insurance if you do - and they do seem a bit mad on the roads (including the tourists!) And don't forget to take a torch for when the electricity goes off - it does seem to happen quite a bit.
If your flight goes via Bahrain its the most fab duty free i've ever been to.. Got my gucci watch at 300 and was 650 in UK - so a must for shoppaholics.
