The Goan holiday season is about to start and I've heard that the monsoon is finally moving on. Apparently they have had 140" of rain since June!!

I'm booked into the Marinha Dourada for next Easter. I don't want to start counting the sleeps until Easter but I'm very tempted!!

Anyone else booked this hotel? They have a new website at www.madogoa.com and it's so much better than the old one.

All sounds good to me Virago!

I have emailed the hotel a couple of times requesting a top floor room overlooking the lakes but I have not heard back from them as yet.

See you there Shirley! I arrive on the 29th March for a couple of weeks.

We have a handy tips thread in the Goa forum if anyone has any tips they would like to pass on for all us Goan Virgins.

Good review Virago!...Did the building works bother you at all?

No not really. You could hear them in the mornings as the whole family lives in the buildings and you could hear babies crying and the washing being done and their chatter and laughter etc. It's all part of their culture though. Builders in the UK wouldn't dream of moving their entire families into unfinished buildings but the Goan's do!! We found that if we kept the bathroom door closed it kept out most of the noise in the mornings-the building site was directly behind and below our room.. (They seem to start about 8am and finished quite early in the evening). It was not a problem atall. It was part of the overall experience of Goa and we loved it all.

Brilliant and useful information. Always best to hear from people who have experienced it. We too were concerned about the building works but will accept it as part of the culture and take it in our stride. we are going on 9th Feb to Marinah Dourada as a family of four. Two oldens and son 21 and daughter 17. Can anyone say what the nightlife is like for them (not us) and whether it is safe at night.
Taken me ages to type this as just had vaccinations today and both arms feel like ton weights!!!!

Hiya Cyril

I think the night life is good and quite safe on the whole. I have a 16-year-old daughter and I've been told that she will get quite a bit of attention from the Indian men in the clubs, its not nasty it just goes on and on!! So may need a guardian, perhaps you??!! Apparently, the clubs attract folk of all ages and are quite different to the "British" clubs.

I'm glad you are sticking with the MH. From what I've read, most folk are sticking with it. I look forward to your return and hopefully you'll leave a review for others.

We also are flying out on the 31st March and staying at the MD, Who are you flying with and from where ?

As for the noise, I'll bring extra ear plugs ! as I've said to iaintweyes in the past, what's better than lying back in the sun watching other people work.

Iain, I thought you where going to the clubs with your daughter, or is that you don't want her to cramp YOUR style LOL.

we are flying out of manchester as no flights from scotland. we booked through first choice so it should be one of there flights but not sure.

just applying for the visas the now as the holiday was only booked a couple of weeks ago. definately looking forward to it. always fancied india as a holiday destination so really hoping it lives up to our expectations.

just looking forward to the break and the sunshine as all it seems to be doing here at the minute is snowing!!

Congratulations for your forthcoming wedding levis-angel

What a lovely place to have your honeymoon.

I'm really looking forward to my stay at the MD. Have a look at Goa in Google maps and you can actually see the hotel and the lakes!!

When in March do you fly and where from?

You can honeymoon wherever you want to and Goa is as good or better than most places I would think.

I arrive at the MD a few days after you.

Couple of websites for you to look

Trips (Over-night boat trip) - www.daytrippergoa.com

The Marinha Dourada website - www.madogoa.com

You should see the size of the fish caught in the lake in front of the hotel!

Hi everyone. Did you catch that fish Iain?? The chap in the photo looks suspiciously familiar, I think he was there at the same time as us, obviously stays at the MD for the whole season.
Well the good news is that we have just booked another holiday in Goa at the MD. We are going for 2 weeks this time from 12th Feb 09. We have booked through Thomson.co.uk although we are using First Choice planes. We found that Thomsons are approx £800 yes £800 cheaper than booking direct with First Choice!!.
Counting the days already!!
