| With Goa so much in the headlines recently, I thought I would check out what else is going on around the area as I leave shortly for a holiday there.
So I took a look at The Goan Voice.........wish I hadn't!

| Hi Iain
If you read all sh-- on any country it will put you off visiting, just go and enjoy. Have you looked on the FCO travel advice, if they say its OK to travel then it will be.
I was put off Brazil 2 yaers ago because of all the rubbish people were saying of robbers, murders, brazilians ripping gold off your necks etc, but we had a great time and the people were great so just put all of these reports out of your head and go for it, you were so looking forward to this holiday dont be put off you have waited all this time just enjoy and tell us all about it on your return.
Have good time

| So where do we go instead? Where is this safe heavenly alternative and do we really want to go there? The tabloids have done what they usually do, rev everyone up and moralise. "Freely available drugs in Goa", wow, what a surprise, name me somewhere in the world where they aren't. Bear in mind that when you do a beach holiday in Goa, very few people you meet will be Goan; this is the equivalent of mancs working at Butlins in Minehead for the summer.
We had another great time in the south and , prior to that, in Sri Lanka.
If you dont mind financing a war, Sri Lanka is a great place to tour and beach for 3 or 4 weeks for similar money to Goa. But you might get blown up by a car bomb. Tough choice, isn't it?

| Iain go and enjoy yourself, you are well aware of the country and all of its problems,so just be careful, and dont let your chavvy have too much freedom while your there, keep your eyes on her at all times
( please ). Same as my own chavvy they dont consider everything that is going on around them as a problem.

Have fun xx

| I have just rtnd from candolim on friday, just spent 2 weeks there. Spent a month there over xmas and new year. The incident everyone is talking about happened the week before I went back there in Feb so it was still fresh on everyones mind. I have been going to Goa for 10 years now and feel very safe there, but I do not wander along the beach etc at night alone, nor would I do this in Europe, as the same thing can happen there. Goa is wonderful, and it is a shame it is getting so much bad publicity at the moment. Yes, becareful, as you would do in the uk. More rapes and murders happen here than in Goa, so please dont let this stop you going and having a wonderful holiday.
It certainly wont stop me going back, and I have already booked to go back for a month in dec/jan.

| Yes I agree with you all, Iain should go to Goa its a beautiful place and people. Tom suggests Blackpool instead come on Tom give us a break, BLACKPOOL!! have you been lately its there you need to take a gun not Goa, you are more likly get raped there and get as many drugs as you want. Goa is like everywhere else just be aware of whats going on around you, and dont do anything you would not do at home, like walk around half naked on your own or on an evening, its a shame but its the sign of the times I am afraid
Lets know what you thought on your return Iain

| I will certainly enjoy myself and I am really looking forward to enjoying Indian/Goan hospitality. Like you've all said, there are threats wherever in the world you go. The key is be wise before you go. It is forums like this one that I have gained all my "Goan" knowledge from, good and bad. As a consequence I am now a bit street savvy, unlike my daughter who is just street chavvy...hehe!
Jan, I trust you along with the other mods to keep the forums in order. But especially look out for any rabble disrupting the Sunday quiz. Instant ban for any member causing problems!!! Keep that cattle prod handy!
Started the anti-malaria tablets a few days ago....eveything alright so far, no side efects
Two more sleeps to go.....WOO HOO!!

| Iain go and have a wonderful time, you know that there are problems anywhere that you go and as long you are sensible and keep your wits about you, you will have a great time, you will probably come to the same conclusion as me which is that at times you see far worse going on around the area you live in, unless you are like Tom and live in the remotest part you can find.
As for the comments about the Sunday Night Quiz, I am not sure if you would like the disappointment before you go that there will of course be a win each week for the girls, no think we will keep that information for when you return.:)
So go enjoy have fun and tell all when you get back
