Greek Islands

I would recommend Rhodes or Corfu for a family greek experience. Crete is nice but personally I find it too commercialised.

"Hya. Just found out where we went. Elies Hotel
Panormos. Still looks lovely in the pics I`ve found on line. Hope its still as friendly, and clean." --- bazz
I was probably really unlucky then. Glad you had a good time
Crete is a very big island - some parts are commercialised and some parts arent. You could say the same about a lot of Greece unfortunately (and it is exactly how I would describe my experience of Corfu). Its strange how resorts on an island can vary so much - Lindos is a world away from Rhodes new town for example.
Thank goodness for holiday watchdog

Hi All,
We have been disappointed with quite a few Greek resorts, finding that they are just catering for the Brits abroad. Basically you need to do as much research as poss. I have been to Sidari in Corfu, it was awful, too noisy, dirty and brash but some people return twice a year. There are some nice resorts though, Paleokastritsa and St George's South. Many of them only have pebbly beaches though which is no good if you have young children. We had a great holiday in Kalamaki in Zante and Pefkos in Rhodes. Both have nice beaches but hardly any Greek character. Plenty of Karaoke and English breakfasts - not what we are looking for now but we are a 50 years old couple.
Last year we went to Stoupa on the Peloponnese and before that to Parga. These both have nice beaches and plenty of character. Parga is very hilly though. We also found them cheaper for eating out than the islands. Stoupa has 2 lovely bays and enough tavernas to keep you going for at least 2 weeks. Try www.zorbas.de/webcam/eindex.php there is tons of info on there and a very active and helpful forum. It really is a good resort for families.
I hope you have found somewhere suitable anyway.
One thing you can always rely on is the friendliness of the Greek people.

If you would like any info on the island of kef ask away.

Hi Superstar
I have been looking at late deals and there are some good ones to Kefalonia, Katelios in particular. Do you know what the village is like? We try to avoid karaoke, english breakfast and roast beef etc, also premiership matches on sky sports. We like a bit of beach and swimming/snorkelling, sitting in tavernas and trying the local food and wine. We also like to go and have a look around either by hire car or local bus. Any info would be appreciated.
I have also seen some offers to Nidri on Lefkada, anyone know much about it please?
Efharisto poli.

Lefkada is beautiful , Nidri is a tiny place though with a very little beach.
Kefalonia is also nice. The best beaches are around Lassi which unfortunately hasn't any character at all , but it isn't rough or rowdy. The island generally is quiet but there are karaoke places to be found if you look for them. Car hire is recommended as it's a large island with lots of places to see.
Katelios is very small but very nice.
I'll be back there 5th Sept.

I would suggest Pefkos (Rhodes)..
this resort is not overly big, with lots of Tavernas. has a lovely sandy beach. Would be an ideal location for someone to take a small child.

I have to agree with Galatas, Nidri is stunning, been there twice and going again next year.
