| Not being technically minded not sure if this could be done.
But I think the names/ status should be highlighted or coloured, for the Staff leaving the Paws black. Failing that the idea of a coloured Paw just for Staff and helpers only is better.
The new coloured Paws in the forums are excellent, leading to Hot to Cool threads, the General Chat Forum is a better heading than the Real World, well done. Members can personalise their names and add various other things, so surely the colour of the Paws is irrelevant apart from showing the more active members of the site.

Its probably more appropriate but I preferred "Real World". However, I'm probably one of the few members who really dislikes the chat / padding that goes on now - sorry.

| Hi tenpin,
The problem with highlighting the more active forum members is that it becomes a bit of status thing. i.e. It might discourage the not so active members to post if you know what I mean. I have used a few forums in my time and when the more active members get a foothold it becomes a them and us scenario. But I know you lot are too kind to do something like that :P

It wasnt changed to try and direct people to come to this part of the forum exclusively, just trying to make things easier to find for newer members. You would be surprised how many dont even know this discussion forum exists.

The Real World, General Chat or Discussion Forum whatever its given title is an essential part of any Holiday related site, and hopefully does not distract from the main aim of the site to give help and answers to Holiday makers.
Disregarding the specialised Forums for the moment, answers to the queries posted there can be given in the usual manner. What do these open discussion rooms give us, other than a chance to let off steam, to talk about everyday things?
Well for one we adopt a strange kind of friendship, an affinity with other members, new members are quickly welcomed into the group, their input gratefully received, so the wealth of our combined knowledge on Holiday related issues grows. My love of Cruising is well recorded, but I pose this question, if I only took the time to read those related posts would I not soon get bored through lack of posts, and would I cease to come in as often as I do? If the one line replies in the open forum helps new members with their first general post, then I am all for it.
Sure some threads are to say the least, are somewhat discerning and not at all interesting to me as a Macho Male or MCP as Mrs T calls me, however even by just glancing at those posts my interest is held, and many one liners produces some unexpected results. General Chat or indeed the Welcome Forum are not easy to find for guests that have just entered the site, from the home page the most logical next step is into their favoured destination via the headers, USA, Med Beach, Caribbean. Indeed many of those ‘guests' may well be members who have just popped in to check their favoured destination, and the chat forum holds no interest. Nothing wrong with that.
So why do we need a general chat forum?
Holding members interest when posts are slow, the ease of replying to a thread like The X Factor, a feeling of belonging to a like minded group, passing on news or wishing members a good holiday, they all make us return for another look at this site, which in turn helps us all.
OK hands up all of you that knew MCP stands for;
My Cuddly Partner. Bet that spoilt the image.

Can I just say I always thought Tenpin was admin or mod ... he seemed to be everywhere so well done mods for changing the colours of your names because now I can see at a glance the things that I need to see.

Dont get me wrong, I think general discussion is great but I feel like a total outsider in long winded threads where a handful of posters are having their own conversation. If I was new to the site it *would* put me off completely. Its not as bad as it was at one point because it does appear to be staying on one thread but it did look like it was getting slightly out of hand with completely random topics turning into are you going to bed / what are you doing now style chats.
I love the general discussion - I just dont like padding. To each their own of course.
