| I'am looking for ideas for stuff to do and see in Highlands & Lewis. Planing a sightseeing trips in Fort William, Skye, Ullapool, Lewis and finish up in Glasgow. I'am looking for ideas for stuff to see that worth while and can't be missed

| The scenery, that is fantastic in itself. Dornoch is nice, the Falls of shin and if your anywhere near Lairg theres a visitors center. Quite a few Castles, theres a great museum at Helmsdale. I do believe theres stuff on Sky, but I haven't been there. Theres Vikingar at Oban that is supposed to be good.

| The Highlands area is amazing. We visit most years in the spring and accept that the weather can be a bit iffy. If you're travelling up from England you MUST go via Glen Coe which will take you eventually to Fort William. Glen Coe is awesome and never ceases to amaze me.
Very good coffe/gift shop on left after you leave Glen Coe and go towards Oban
If you are Self-Catering I can highly recommend Loch Linnhe Lodges near Ballachuish. There are 8 lodges which although fairly close together have their main picture window facing the loch. If you want a peaceful break it is heaven. The water's edge is 10 metres from the lodge and you can sit on the balcony and view the magnificent scenery.
Fort William is fairly OK but do visit Oban...lots of shops and thinmgs to do. Also visit Aanoch more and take a trip up the mountain by gondola..you may even see Ben Nevis it is wonderful.
Have not visited Lewis/Skye but Ullapool is nice. You could also go and see Glenfiddich viaduct (on the 'road to the isles' from F Wliiam. Beautiful drive) It is where they filmed Harry Potter.

| Just back from a week touring bits of Scotland:
Oban is seedy, really just a big bus stop for ferries - if you know what I mean. One or two overpriced and not very welcoming "trendy' restaurants on the harbour front.
It seems to be "up and coming" but is still very down at heel.
We stayed in a nice b&b tho, The Old Manse - we'd recommend it as its family friendly and very welcoming.
Watch the ferry times tho, as they stop running at stupid times like 19:00...!
Glen Garry is fabulous, worth the time to drive/stop and picnic etc.

| I have probably done wrong as I've bumped up yet another old thread but when I was in Scotland I popped over to the Isle of Arran, beautiful island. I quite agree about watching ferry times as they last one back which was caught was half 7 or something (I can't quite remember as it was July we where in Arran).
