John Folwer Holidays - Widemouth Bay

Holiday Parks

Been to John Folwer Holidays for the first time last year. It was a lovely well kept park and the caravans were all situated nicely (apart from ours which looked out onto a hedge)

About the Park:

Small clubroom and not much to do on the site. Entertainment was not brilliant but the Bingo was great! Swimming Pool was not very big. There is not much to do onsite. Its more like a Youth Hostel. You stay on the park and go out to see the surrounding areas. Which is what we intended to do anyway. Not much to do on the park for older ones. Plenty for youngsters though.

Out and about:
The beach was the best beach I have ever visited in my whole life. The Sea was preety warm as we went in August but the Beach can get busy so I would reccomend anyone going to get an early start of getting there for 9am - 10am! Went to Eden Projects - Great Day out.

Overall Rating of Surrounding Area - 10/10
John Fowler Parks - 5/10 mainly because of facilities

It seem that you may have hed the same caravan as us was it any chance surounde by hedges on two sides in the darkest dingiest corner of the site. i am i the middle of wrighting a letter of complaint to them as we had booked months in advance and had the best caravan you could book.
And just to ad insult to injury they cut the hedge and strimed the grass on the friday a day before we were going home. and in my opinion the site was tired and worn out. and yes resembles a youth club with little or next to nougthing for anyone to do. but it has to be said that the surounding area was fab and the beech beautiful and clean.
We holiday at least 2-3 times in a yr to holiday parks in cornwall and this i can say is not one i will be ever going back to. It has even put me off going to any other john fowler park.
And did i mention the fact that the tv didnt work for 50% of the time there.

Don't know where to start with this. Suffice it to say that I don't know how firms like this get away with what they do to be frank.
The site is pretty run down at best I would describe it as "tired" although I'm sure on the website this would be put down as "Characterfull".
The alarm bells rang when at reception we where told not to run too many appliances as the chalet would "Fuse".
The chalets where grubby, the carpet looked like it had come from a scene in CSI, the furniture and bedding was damp to the touch and the entire building smelt like an underground cave. My wife started crying and I really lost my temper having driven for 10 hours to get there.
On returning to reception I then had to stand in a que of equally T-d off people who had arrived and found issue with their shacks, in fact they where queing out of the door in reception.
This was my only holiday of the year, I've been several times to cornwall before and absolutely love the place, St Ives in particular.
Never again !

I've only stayed at a John Fowler site once, at Ilfracombe and have to say it's once too often. The chalet was damp and smelled musty. The clubhouse was dingy and unwelcoming. The pool freezing despite the claim that it was heated.
From other comments I've seen this would seem fairly typical of their sites.
