Self Catering or All Inclusive?

Hi,
Firstly reading this site has been great in helping us choose our next family holiday.
We have decided on Icmeler and it will be our first time in Turkey having only ever been to Menorca on family holidays in the past.
We have friends who have been to Turkey but always go all inclusive to the Side area.
The place we like is the Club Aquarium but this is only self catering.
Should we be worried about spending too much if going self catering for 14 nights in Icmeler?
(we were leaning towards all inclusive: 1) because our friends normally do this, 2)overall holiday cost.)

PS. we are a family of 5 with the kids being 6, 4 & 2 yrs old

many thanks

if your planing on staying at the hotel you can pay for all inc when you get there at the julien forrest things are getting more excpensive but if u look around at the local shops u can get juice, crisps & sweets 4 the kids & eggs, bacon & all the other breaky stuff its still preety cheap to eat out and if u find ur reasturant they usualy give u a lift home as well try bullshits.we always go s/c u need to get out to see turkey and not to be tyed to the hotel times hope this helps but each to their own

We have been AI in Turkey and had no problem. I would imagine it's good when you have a family.

Thanks for the advice,
We have always been self catering in the past and really enjoy finding & trying different places to eat out.
Its more the overall cost i suppose as we have never been to turkey and dont know what to expect of the prices, this is probably why we were leaning towards all inclusive for a bit of security on this aspect and also the fact other people we have spoken to go AI.
Thanks again

It is nice to eat out and enjoy local restaurants, but I would imagine with children it could be a night mare.

We always went self catering when our children were younger. Now we like a bit of pampering. At least with AI you don't have worry about food, or the money. I think it works out cheaper.

We have tried both AI and self catering in Turkey. The AI did in fact work out cheaper for us and because at that time we had 3 teenagers with us it solved all the arguing about where to go to eat and we could keep them all in one place.
We were happy with self catering and we could go out and try different restaraunts, but coming to the end of the 2 week holiday it was getting hard work deciding on where to go and eat out, and like I said it did work out more expensive in the end, when you have to consider that all drinks are included in your holiday, all the odd beers and pop for the kids really does run up quite a bill.
We have booked for Side this year AI again. :)

Another positive with AI is you don't have to carry money about the complex or down to the beach if the bar/restaurant is nearby so you can lie in peace in the sun without worrying about cash or credit cards. We have been self catering in the past and it is nice to go somewhere different to eat but most AI hotels have two or three restaurants so you still get some choice. PLUS, if you meet up with a crowd, there's no argument whose round it is!!!

hi we are the miller family we have 2 children age 9,12 we have been goin to turkey for the last 5yrs we love it we find marmaris is best for us we find icmeler is to quiet and more expensive , we stayed at the club alize in 05 it was new with first choice it was not far from shops but we like walking anyway, we go to jim barrys steak house not far from club alize it is very lively got kids club bar staff are great, got slides for both ages we have to have slides otherwise they get bored. if you go all inc you will pay the earth its to expensive thats why we go s/c there is a new hotel opened with thomsons club candan but got no kids club with thomsons this year ,but plenty of slides for both ages we are thinking there, the food out is quite reasonably cheap ,sometimes with all inc they dont caiter for young children so you end up goin out to eat anyway .also some all inc end up in middle of nowhere and we like to be able to get out and about read the reviews on **** before you book anywhere but those 2 are good(o the club candan is near the mosk it can wake you at 5am if fot about 10 mins but if dont mind that it ok)
