Kalutara Sri Lanka

Hi,
My wife and I are going to stay at the Ramada Hotel in Kalutara for the first two weeks in February 08.The hotel is all inclusive and right on what looks like a gorgeous beach,but we'd like to see some of the attractions, such as temples and elephants.Can anyone suggest some trips to be had ,and also tell me what the sea is like in Feb, not rough and safe to swim I hope.

visit Polhena as well which is further down if you are into a great swim, where you can walk about 200m towards the sea
