| Hi to everyone booked on this cruise. Really looking forward to the cruise now it is getting so close. Have picked up the tickets and was a little disappointed not to have received more information e.g. cabin number etc. Also have booked the 2 nights in Rio and hadn't been given the hotel name or any details. Apparently we are in the Hotel Regente, which I think I have seen in the brochure. Anyone else staying there before the flight back to Manchester with Air France via Paris? Bon Voyage

| Hi all
Brilliant cruise we went last year with Island Escape. All hotels are on the beach front so you get good views of the Rio beach and all characters. Some great restaurants as well on the front. We went shopping in Rio and bought some lovley good quality shirts as our suitcases went missing in Charles de Gaulle airport. ( long story)
It is cheaper to tour around in taxis, we booked a taxi and he took us to Christ Redeemer and waitied for us then on to Sugar loaf mountain again he waited for us to go up in the cable car and back down for a drink, he charged us about £35 so it was a good day. Its great to people watch from the pavement cafe's.
Have a good time

| Please can I ask the seasoned cruisers whether I will need a thickish/warmish coat/anorak for this crossing or will a light coat and a layer of jumpers be ok..? Apologies for the boring question, but slight panic coming over me as I start to think of clothes for the 21 nights. Don't want to miss out on the sea breezes, and have no idea how warm it might be when sat on deck whilst at sea? You will all recognise me at the dock... 'cos due to the weight allowance probably will be stood wearing everything that can't go in the suitcase.... and carrying the rest over the arm!

| It can get very chilly out on deck on an evening, a fleece or jumper usually is sufficient.
Brazilnut - 98% of the time cabin numbers are not shown on tickets until you get on the coach to the ship. Only a few operators give you these details in advance.

| Hi Landlady
The shops are all over, some selling tat some sell western clothes you have to look around go further backover from the beach its cheaper. Shoe shops are brilliant nice leather shoes and sandels I got a a pair of leather sandels for about 10 english when I brought them home all my friends wanted a pair I just wish I had bought loads. We went into a mans shop for hubbys shirts and the lady couldn't speak a word of english she just giggled at us, but she must have brought all of the stock out for us to look at, hubby did.t dare refuse after that, but he bought some good quality shirts, which he would have paid twice s much here.
have a good time

| Hi, to all, have packed and unpacked several times. Still having a dilema over what to take. Have looked at the weather for Palma and Lisbon so thought may need the warmer clothes for the first part of the cruise. Haven't the guts to travel light.
Will we see you at the airport? Flying from Manchester, but don't intend getting there very much before 5-30 am. Think its terminal 2 but need to check tomorrow. Just got rid of the dog tonight..... hopefully not permanently. See/speak soon to all the transatlantic Island Star passengers for November 07.
Ps All Christmas Cards written and being posted by a friend whilst we are away!!!!!!

| Hi again to everyone, just returned from the transatlantic cruise to Brazil. We had such an amazing time. The ship and staff were great. We enjoyed every aspect of this cruise. The places were visited were each unique in their own way, although the least interesting was probably Cape Verde but we were there for only a short time. Brazil was fabulous but you must take notice of the warnings issued regarding the wearing of jewellery or the carrying of cameras. We were sensible and had a great time in each of the ports. We left the ship in Rio and had 2 nights before flying home quite comfortably with Air France. Unfortunately it rained all day when we visited the statue of Christ the Redeemer, and Sugarloaf mountain. Both were covered in mist so we couldn't take in the views. But somehow the rain and mist in 80 degrees plus doesn't seem too bad! Luckily on our sail into Rio we were able to get some great pictures, so these will make up for the ones that we couldn't take. To anyone out there thinking of this type of cruise do consider it as it is excellent value for money. But I would say, it is best suited to those without any mobility problems and for those who like us, will enjoy the long sea days in very hot temperatures that can be quite tiring, especially when nothing else to do but read, relax and take in the ambience!
