| I went on the island star last year and took my straightners and they worked really well, there was already a hairdryer in the cabin but i dont see why you cant take your own. the only thing is the straightners might not get as hot on the ship as they do at home due to the voltage but mine worked fine. enjoy your holiday!

| Thanks Lj75. My wife actually bought her straighteners in the USA, and I have read that the plug sockets are American, so she is hoping they will work as normal. Can anyone confirm this?

| Went on the Island Star in May and my GHD's did not work you need the dual voltage ones. Also the hairdryers in the bathroom are rubbish. I suffered curly hair for a week.

| As Island cruise ships are all registered in Nassau, it's US voltage on board

| If all else fails, use the plug socket for the TV ..its a higher voltage ;)
We used it on the destiny only though so if it doesnt work..dont blame me.

| Hi there - I am having a crisis about about my GHD straighteners and am wondering if anyone can help! I have just booked to go on a Thomson Destiny cruise for a week and noticed that the voltage on board is 110v. My GHDs are 220-240v. I can't possibly suffer curly hair for a week and am thinking about getting a step down voltage cconverter but does anyone know what i need and whether the ships are fitted with UK plugs? All I seem to find is UK to USA converters?? Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks.

| I believe they run on the USA adaptor, although i think the TV is a european one (possibly). Take both just in case.
On the destiny Straighteners work on the tv plug as its a higher voltage so unplug the tv and put them in there and tada. Worked for my partner after some thinking.

Hi Leannem,
Welcome to the cruise forum.
Your best bet is a all-in travel adaptor which will cover just about any socket you are libel to come across, look in Boots, Woolies or any travel shop, or if you have one near you a AA shop.
