Hi Laura,

I spent some time in Jamaica about 10 years ago.Not at this resort but a bit further round the coast.

From my memory, you can probably expect a laid back approach to almost everything....but nothing is too much trouble.
Very friendly people..."No Problem Mon" (please excuse the bad accent) and "Irie" are a few phrases you'll find yourself saying by the end of your holiday.

Food Options..well, you are going to a Riu Hotel and by all accounts from reviews on other Riu Hotels the food is mainly of good opinion.
Fresh fruit was always available from memory, salads, bean dishes, vegetables, pastas, cheeses(not sure how much of a vegetarian you are?)
Pizza's..the list goes on.
The local Rum...151 ....Oh My God....it has the biggest "kick" you'll ever know!!!
Try just a FEW of these......then see how it goes..

Hope this will help a little.....;)

Smile, be happy and above all, Enjoy.:D

Edit:...I forgot to mention Dunns River Falls and Beach. It's a great day out. You get to climb the waterfalls..go with a guide or on your own..either way,it's breathtaking..!!

Hi there

I am going to Jamaica on 2nd March so I can let you know all about it when I get back. I am 25 and going with my boyfriend. Never been anywhere like this before either so it will be a completely different holiday to what I am used to but I am so looking forward to it. Not going to Negril though we are going to Runaway Bay - Royal Decameron Club Caribbean. We have looked up a lot about Jamaica though and it looks absolutely amazing. Fancy quite a few of the trips especially Dunns River Falls and Bob Marley Museum also swimming with Dolphins - always wanted to do that so hopefully I will get the chance.

Anyway I will let everyone know all about it when I get back. This time in two weeks I will be in Jamaica!!!! YIPPEE!

:D

Negril is a long way from Montego Bay airport over rough roads - take an air taxi if you can. Its a class place with great hotels and Ricks place is something special. Take advice from hotel reception about recommended excursions to Dunns River Falls and Rafting on the Rio Grande. Don't get in a cab unless the hotel has called it for you and don't carry more cash than you need for the day.

Best hotel is Grand Lido but at 20 the sister hotel Hedonism may be more up your street. Negril is the most laid back place in the world so just relax.

Hi again. Im not long back from Jamaica and it was the best holiday I have been on so far. The place is gorgeous - complete paradise. Everyone is friendly and helpful. I stayed in Royal Decameron Club Caribbean in Runaway Bay which is quite near Ocho Rios. The journey from the airport is a little longer than what the brochures state. This is due to the poor roads. They are in the middle of building highways which should have been finished by 2000 but I wouldnt even say they were half way there. Its obviously getting done in Jamaican time....no rush! Its not too bad though and our bus driver was kind enough to stop off on the way so we could all get a drink (red stripe beer was the biz!) As soon as you arrive in Jamaica everyone is trying to help you...just remember they expect a tip for everything so always have some small notes with you. Its probably best to have American Dollars as most things are marked as this although they accept Jamaican Dollars too. The food was really nice especially their ****** Chicken and ****** Pork. Prepare yourself for their rum - mega strong!! I wont say much about our hotel as you are not going their but it was lovely so I will rave about it in my review. We went on a few excursions - Rafting in Rio Grande, Port Antonio, Dunns River Falls and swimming with Dolphins. All of them were great and well worth the money. Dunns River Falls is a must but be prepared to climb. We did want to go on the Bob Marley Kingston Tour but unfortunately it got cancelled as not enough people had booked it - it just gives us an excuse to go again though. I will be writing a review as soon as I get the chance and I will try and add a video clip but if anyone needs any more advice I will help if I can. Enjoy though - I am so jealous you are going soon - I wish it was me going back! xx
